Iam thinking of buying a GSD ,but am I alone in wondering what has happened to the breed? I am concerned that they appear to have roached backs and it seems desirable to have their bottoms as low to the ground as possible. I am wondering if it is possible to find one without what I see as defects and where would I start?
Kind Regards Mary.

Hi there Mary.
This subject has been debated (quite hotly!) a few times, and I have to agree with you.  I prefer "straight backed" shepherds.  There are still some breeders out there.  Have a look on the net.  Look at their breeding stock.  That should give you ideas of whose pups to go for.

good luck.

I've got a GSD of the 'old fashioned' variety.
They do exist, try Carol Fabrello on 01628 624117, nr Windsor, shes been breeding them for years and if she isnt expecting a litter, she'll probably know someone who is.

In addition to what you see as defects, unfortunately the GSD has other defects which affect it. Make sure the parents have had all the necessary health checks & are of good temperament. There's more to a GSD than its topline!

Hi Indy

Not so unusual - I always used to reply privately to posters who came on looking for Dobes but now rarely do this as I never had any response.  Will reply on the forum occasionally and ask them to contact me instead as people have done here
