I have just taken back a 6 month old pup due to the new owners having marital problems.
At first the two sisters (I kept one of the litter) got on very well and seemed to enjoy having each other to play with. Now 24 hours later its a war zone. The fights are getting very nasty,(and noisie). Their poor mum wont be in the same room as them, if there in she gos out.
Its not practical to keep them apart all the time, so is this just a whos boss thing or is it going to keep on.
Help.
Sally.

Sally, wish I could say it will settle down, it may but it may well not. Could be that one or the other are nearing their season and that is what is causing the problem. Don't know what to suggest but would cage one of them if you are not there to referee.

sorry sure that is not what you wanted to hear.

Thanks Jackie. It may be Taz coming in to season as she dos have a clear discharge at the moment.Or just her being her bossy self, ever since she opened her eyes she has had to be boss.
It Zel i feel sorry for.

Seem to remember she beat her brother up to. As she is so dominant it may settle, anyone drawn blood?

:( Are you hoping to keep her too or are you trying to rehome her?

You don't want to start a bad habbit if your own were getting along well before the new arrival

I spoke to a very experienced breeder of our breed and she said that you should not allow Mum to escape the problem, as really she should sort the youngsters out.  Her discipline is likely to be far more effective than yours (with9in reason).  she advised not to let Mum away from them so that to get peaxe she will have to lay dowwn the law.

Also as far as is possible the pups both need to be relegated to as low a status as possible, and Mum's should have hers elevated.

Mum should be fed before the pups, and they should have to wait and watch until she is finished.  This will mean splitting her meals so that she also gets fed twice a day.

When the pups are fed they must not be allowed to wander away from their dishes to interfere or try to intimidate the other.
