Just heard one of the Judges due to judge at Crufts in March died yesterday :( How do they replace a judge at such short notice at an event like this ?

To be honest 3 months is not that short notice :-). The KC are best placed to sort this one because they just click on their database which shows which judges are booked and who has judged in the last 12 months and when people last judged etc - it is a mine of information!! The Committee then have a short list and go through them. A couple of years ago one of our judges pulled out of the appointment after entries had closed. My father was asked if he could do it but declined as he had already done it and my mother had judged the previous year and they were both doing the breed show in up and coming years.
They have had to replace judges on the day before now. Three Months is easy!!
I think even the KC has a list of judges for each breed, if one turns it down then they will try the next one untill a judge says yes, then if that judge pulls out or something happens they go down the list again!
Simple, 3 months is plenty of time, entries haven't even closed yet!

One year our judge unfortunately fell as she left the judges reception on the way to the ring, it took about 15 minutes to find a new judge.
