Well my bitch was mated 4 weeks ago and I think that she may be in whelp, she has become very fussy with her eating, she usually eats Beta Active but will not even sniff at it now, we have given her tinned meat but she wont touch Chunky now but she did 2 days ago, we gave her Chappie and she wolfed it down she also has eaten grilled Chicken and Boiled Rice. What do I do? Give her anything she wants to eat or put her normal food down and keep putting it down because eventually she'll be so hungry she'll eat, I am sure all this changing of her diet will of course upset her. She is absolutely fine in every other way she goes out for her walk happy enough and every other aspect of her day is 'normal'.
Please, any advise

I'm far from a expert on these things but my bitch is now 7 weeks pregnant, and went off her food at about the same time as yours. She lost .5kg in a matter of days though she was perfectly fine and healthy in everyway. She has always been a picky eater, but will eat eventually. But htis time she wasn't having any of it, so i gave in and changed her food. I changed the flavour of her complete dry food, and have started adding in different varieties of wet food, and there has been no upset tummies, and a very happy dog, as she now eats every thing the minute i put it down.
Just think you'd probably get a bit bored of eating say just scrabbled eggs every day, sometimes fried or boiled is a nice change!

try putting what she likes in with her dog food and she will eat both

I have tried a few different things now but she seems to have settled on Tripe and her normal food mixed with it! As long as she's happy. We are in our 5 week nearly and she does seem quite round already, perhaps she is showing early as she is a fairly small bitch. She is very much a Drama Queen too at the moment everything is just such an effort, Bless her.

Hi would feed her a fairly high protein complete feed that is made for pregnant bitches/hard working dogs , or a complete puppy food together with good quality meat like Butchers Tripe. In general you dont increase the quantity much, but increase the quality. Have you got the "Book of the Bitch" by Kay White and J Evans - its the dog breeders "bible"? I feed my pregnant girls on Omega Energy (28% protein) + Butchers Tripe which all of mine enjoy and have good sized healthy puppies.

She is almost back to her normal food - Beta Active, but as a few people have said to me as long as she eats something through this phase of 'picky' eating that's ok, and also her appetite has picked up too, my query was it was rather earlier than any of my other bitches have shown, but then as also said, 'we are all different'.
I do have the Book of the Bitch, it has been a good source of info. I do 'Thank you' for all your replies, this board is a great help.
