I dropped Kirra off at the Vet this morning to be spayed.  I'll be picking her up after work this evening.  How can I make her more comforatable for the 45 min ride home?  Also, what are things I can do for her at home to make her recovery swift and to avoid any unnessicary discomfort?  One other thing I am wondering is how much movement is to much.  She is a very active little dog and she loves to run around the house bouncing off the couches throwing her toys in the air  and then catching them.  I know that the first day or so I shouldn't have that problem, but as she recovers how much motion is safe.  I don't want her tearing herself.
I'm expecting her to be a little preturbed at me for the next while, but I think I'll survive.

We found that Minx only wanted to sleep for about 12 hours after coming home, the next day she was eating normally and wanting to rush around like a loony! We kept her in for five days (let her into the garden for a wee but not to run about), and stopped her from fighting with our other dog and jumping on the furniture (apparently should try to avoid stretching such as you'd get by going up/down stairs, jumping on/off furniture), but she was allowed to run around at ground level! Although she wanted to play 'chase and fetch stuff', we didn't let her until she'd had her stitches checked on day 3. We thought we might have to crate her to keep her quiet, but it proved not to be necessary.
Too late to suggest anything re the ride home I guess, Minx slept on a blanket on the back seat with OH in the back to keep her steady (still groggy from anaesthetic), but she travelled much better than we anticipated anyway. We were worried the whole time in case she popped her stitches with running about, but as it turned out she was fine (had them out yesterday). Didn't stop us checking them all the time though!

Hi Drai

I cant really add anything to Jennas post as my girl was exactly the same. I thought i was going to have terrible trouble keeping her quiet as she is a lively springer . But i found when i got her home she just wanted to sleep so i left her to it she made her own way to bedroom and didnt come out until the morning. The next day she was a bit mopey but she ate, and as soon as she saw her ball she seemed to forget all about the day before. I let her go at her own pace. But did not actually encourage her by throwing ball etc for about a week ( much to her disgust) I think she was more fed up that i wouldnt play ball than she was about the op!!

Sher will be fine, give her a big hug from us when you collect her

Kirra came through with flying colors.  She hasn't paid much attention to her incision, so licking hasn't been a problem yet.  She slept all the way home, (I took her pillow with me) and for most of the evening.  She has a tendency to leave a room whenever I leave so last night, she would be laying down and then I'd have to go do something so she'd get up and follow me again.  After a bit she took up residence on my bed and stayed there.  She doesn't seem to be in any pain when she climbs the stairs.  Then again she is a long dog so she may not be stretching when she climbs.  She has been "asking" for help to get on the bed and couch.  Not that I blame her, the incision was about 3 inches long.  Ouch.
She didn't eat anything for most of last night but did have a little water.  I left a small portion of food in her dish and sometime in the evening she ate it.  By about midnight or so she was acting more normal.  This morning she jumped on the OH and wanted to play, so I think she will be fine.
The vet did the stiches on the inside so we won't have to go in to get them taken out because they will disolve.  Kinda handy I think.
