As most of you probably know, I have a 7.5 month old male Staff and he has a playmate at work; a 14 month Dalmation. They have know each other since Bobby was 12 weeks old and I have to say they are the best of friends..and are pretty good at creating merry hell together! Well over the last month Sammy (the Dally) has been getting little bumps on his head, cheeks. back and the odd on on his balls. He has been to the vets and had a course of tablets and the hives have come up as an allergic reaction to something...what we are not sure. Well Bobby amd Sammy have been apart for a week, and today their first day together Sammy has had a breakout again! I suggested it could be something in the field, as Sammy is pretty good at finding dead things and running off and eating them, but could it be that he ahas develped an allergy to Booby? The places where Sammy has come up in small bumps again is round his neck, cheeks and back of his head...and these are the main areas where Bobbys mouth comes into contact with Sammy when they are rolling around. (they don't bite each other hard, just open mouth playing!)
Any advice would be good, as I would hate it if Sam was allergic to bobby...kind of terminal for their friendship! ;-(

It could possibly be what's known as 'Dally rash'. This starts off as small bumps under the skin, most commonly on the top of the head, but the only one of mine to have it got it on one cheek as well; and I have seen one dal with it over most of his body. True dally rash will discolour the hair on the bumps, turning them a pinky colour, and occasionally falls out from where the bumps were. Nobody knows what causes it, why some get it and others not, and there is no treatment. It more usually seen in the summer months (show season  ) but can occur at any time of year. If it is dally rash, it will go of its own accord, but is likely to recur. He may well grow out of it in a few years.
