Topic Dog Boards / General / beau got fixed...
- By meandbeau [mx] Date 03.12.03 15:12 UTC
Hello all,
Beau got fixed yesterda and i had a few questions. Is her personality going to change? What kind of changes can i expect from her? How long is she going to be mad at me???? She cant walk  a whole lot, how long till she can be her again? I have heard so much about how dogs change when you get them fixed...???

Thanks,
Lindsay

by fixed I take it you mean spayed . I had my bully done just before her second season and it didnt change her personality at all , she was just the same as before , it took her about 2 days to recover and regain movement so don't worry she'll be back to normal before you know it !

Thank you so much because i love my dog very very much and i was worried. Should i not let her run around for a few days?

It's probably best not to let her run around till she's had her stitches out. But it can be hard to stop them after a couple of days! Keep her on the lead when you take her out for her walks.

Well, i live in mexico. I work in a teen rehab and it is a lot of acres and she goes up with me EVERYDAY. Should i take her with me but just keep her in the office with me? This is her 5th surgery and she is only 1 year 4 months, but she seems so different from the other times i have brought her home from surgery. Is it maybe just more pain...??? One more thing, it is hard for her to walk, so when she has to pee, she cant. SHould i carry her outside and stay with her til she is done? She doesnt like to be left alone...

What painkillers and antibiotics has the vet given her? She shouldn't be in that much pain - that doesn't sound right at all. I would certainly not leave her unattended while she's like this, so certainly keep her in your office.

He gave her some shots yesterday and said that she would be ok to just bring her back in a week to get the stitches out. He has always done a very good job with her so i trust him., My dog is like a human, so maybe she is enjoying the attention??? If i tell her poor baby, then she lays there with her head back and paws up...:) Im a little worried, but she is a drama queen. I just hate seeing her in pain...=(

Lindsay,

"Is her personality going to change?"  No.
"What kind of changes can i expect from her?"   None, apart from not having a season twice a year.
" How long is she going to be mad at me????"  She isn't mad at you now. Dogs don't get mad at the people they love.
" She cant walk  a whole lot, how long till she can be her again? "  By the time her stiches are out she will be back to normal, if not before, usually this is 10 days after surgery.

My Cairn was in some pain for about five days after surgery.  She did not want to poo.  It's not unusual.

You should keep her from running or jumping until her stitches are removed.  Check her stitches every day. If the wound becomes red or oozes liquid then take her to the vet right away.

Bit late to ask how it will change her after the event, still under the circumstances I think it the best thing.

Well done on getting your dog spayed, the last thing it needed was another litter at a young age.

Hope she recovers well.

Think she has already had one.

Yes i know, and 4 operations already? this poor dog has already had enough to cope with. :(

OK, she is acting a lot better now. She was enjoying the love and attention from mom and dad. Her stitches are already a little bit red, but she also keeps licking it, so maybe it is just a little irritated. One more question, she had a little tiny bit of blood coming out of the wound this morning, is that normal. I know i am paranoid, but she is my baby and i want her to be ok. It was just 2 drops of blood.....

Thank you all SSOOOOOOOOO much.

Don't let her lick it or if she keeps doing it go back to the vet and get a victorian collar, it will get infected otherwise.

Hi Lindsay, i am pleased that you have had her done, now you must make sure that the wound is kept clean try not to let her lick it if it looks red/weepy you will need some thing from vets, and dont let her out on her own to run around put her on the lead and give her a gentle walk. i hope all goes well.

Well we are home from the first day of work and she did pretty well. Im not letting her go anywhere without her lead. Something that is really bothering me though is that she is scared of me... =( She puts her tail in her legs when i get close to her...??? i dont know but i am hoping that she is ok and that she will forgive me.
- By theemx [gb] Date 04.12.03 01:42 UTC
Its probably because seh is sore, and doesnt want to be touched too much, teh tail between the leg thing......its NOT because she blames you for her pain or anything like that!
