If you get in touch with the Weimaraner Club of Great Britain or The Weimaraner Association (both on the net) they will have puppy lists which they will send out to you. Members of both these clubs agree NOT to breed from a bitch prior to the age of 2 or after 7 and no bitch will have more than 3 litters in her lifetime. Members are encouraged to help with rehoming if necessary (stud dog owners and bitch owners) and to have the relevant health checks carried out on their breeding stock. The breed average hip score is 13. Please do not buy from breeders who have not health checked their stock or who have litters every season/year just to make money; also make sure that both sire and dam are kennel club registered.
It costs just as much if not more to keep a badly bred dog then a well bred and well cared for one. It is extremely important that you buy from breeders who take temperament into consideration. A weimaraner is a very strong, powerful dog with a mind of its own and quickly becomes self employed without adequate exercise (when mature) and training. They mature at around 3 and, as a member of the HPR group, need their hunting instincts adequately channelled in order not to become a pain.
