I have a 5 year old goldie. He is a big, chunky, superb tempered, black nosed, square headed fantasctic goldie. I do not show him for a number of reasons, including two teeth which he had removed due to an absess caused by stone chewing.
He is such a superb dog, retrieves, swims etc. All i want to do is continue his line by breeding from him and taking on one of the pups.
Can you give me abdvice please.
Thankyou

Welcome to the forum Vin.

There is so much to take into consideration before you offer your dog for stud :-) I am sure that others will offer you their advice, but in the mean time take a look at the following stud dog Information as I think it may be of interest to you.

if you want to continue with his line. go back to the breeder of your dog, if shes not got any they would probably be able to help

It's a good idea to go back to the original breeder of your dog. Sometimes they will help mentoring you if you want to start breeding. It is so very important to make sure you know what you are getting in to. You need to have a knowledge of bloodlines, genetics, and the costs and health risks involved. Breeding your dog should not be entered into lightly. If you end up breeding puppies with health problems you could be held liable by the people you sell them to. The original breeder holds the key to loads of information about your dog's history, give them a call.

i dont think i made what i meant very clear--when i said go back to your breeder, i meant for a puppy, they have the line already and are obviously geared toward breeding so it would surley be a better option to go back there if you're so pleased with her lines as opposed to touting your dog for stud, as it is if he was used you'd also have the aditional bitch line added which could change most if not all of the characteristics you enjoy about your male, and land up nothing at all liked you'd hoped for, whereas the breeder having the lines already will have more chance of providing you with a similar pup,
