My 8 month old DDB bitch has always been excellant at recall when we let her off her lead.... until the last few weeks when she is becoming a nightmare by not coming back to us at the end of the walk.
All throughout our walk she comes back to us and gets lots of praise and a treats, but the last part of our walk she gets wind of us going home and will run away from us.... we have tried turning our back to her and ignoring her bouncing around us just out of collar reach but this doesnt seem to work. She will come back eventually which leaves us a bit peed with her although we never show it, we give her her treat and praise, though this can be difficult at times.
We dont want to walk her on a lead as we feel a good run around does her good, but im not sure exactly how to sort this problem out. She is on Bronze at training after completing puppy training, she is normally great.

It is called 'adolescence' you have to grit your teeth and bear it I'm afraid. If she was good before this, it will return, I know how frustrating it is.
It will also help to re-inforce your recall training at home.
Regards

I'd guess it's always the same place you try to put her lead on?
Try putting the lead on mid walk for a couple of minutes then taking it off for some free running and play. Also try to vary the walk so you are coming home from a different direction.
At the minute she sees the 'final recall' as meaning end of fun but if she's never sure if the lead is going to be removed again to let her play then she doesn't try to avoid it quite so much.
That's not quite phrased right but I'm sure yu know what I mean :)

She's adolescent, and she's smart! It's probably a combination of the two things - 1) Make sure you have hold of her collar (and have attached the lead) before she gets her reward.......Don't feed her before her walk, so she's hungary, and take her food with you (could be messy if you feed tinned ;)). It may be necessary to use a long line (or horses lunge line) so you can enforce the recall for a few weeks/months, but if she discovers her meal is at the end of a recall you may not need it....... Be patient, stick with it, and you will both come out the other end with a better relationship :)
