Hi have just noticed two adverts for kennels, the first one advertises breeding rottweilers, old english sheep dog, flat coat and golden retrievers, cavaliers, and bulldogs (quite some mix).
The second one that i noticed claim to be GSD breed specialists but state that they have puppies available usually all year?
I dont know if i would buy from these breeders if i was looking and came across these adverts, what's your oppinions on it.
Kind regards.
Jenny.

I would feel very doubious buying a dog from someone who breeds all year round. I would also steer well clear from someone who has more than two different breeds available, does not sound like a nice place.

i am not going to say the name of these kennels as i may get into trouble for it, What i can say though is that the one with all the different breeds has been estabilished since 1968?????? so they must be doing a rip roaring trade to have been going this long but it dosent say anything on this one about being kc registered.

It would be very intresting if someone could phone them for instance and made a genral enquiry about one of their dogs, just to find out what sort of backgrounds some of the dogs are supposed to have, and if they are kc registered.
Would give you some idea then, but still dont sound good.

Well i would do that but dont relly have a clue what i would say as i only have the one dog(choc lab) and am not really experienced in those sort of things.
I'm not actually looking to buy a new dog myself, I just thought id post this thread to see if others people's reactions, would be the same as mine to these adverts.
Kind regards.

I've seen adverts listed in a local newspaper like the first one you mentioned. They always list at least 8 breeds and they can also deliver!!!!! I personally wouldn't touch them with a barge pole but think it would be interesting to ask about these dogs backgrounds and what their excuse would be if you asked if you could see the mum ;-)

The bad thing about these kennel's, is that they are not advertised in the paper, they are listed in my local yellow pages?????

Hi Jenny - puzzled by that, why is the fact they advertise in Yellow Pages the bad thing about this?

Im not saying it is a bad thing in general, to advertise in the yellow pages, what i am shocked at, is the fact tht a well known company like yellow pages would list these kinds of kennels.
Hope that has helped.
Kind regards,
Jenny.

Yellow Pages will advertise anybody who will pay for the advert. It's not their job to 'vet' advertisers. That's down to you and me. The buck stops with us.

That is true, but perhaps if the adverts had strict'er codes of conduct then alot of puppy farmers might be put off, and that can only be a good thing?

I think very few advertising mediums vet their advertisers at all. Yellow Pages used to have strict guidelaines about a very few categories, eg Financial advisors had to have FIMBRA membership, other than that sort of thing who is to say should be allowed to advertise? Most classifications (like Dog Breeders) have no professional association, not all require licensing. Problem is, peoples perceptions of different advertising methods. when it comes down to it, Puppy Farmers can advertise on the KC puppy list (which gives every indication it SHOULD be a sign or a reputable breeder) and the most caring, careful and doggy knowledgeable person can advertise in the free-ads, which we then all exhort potential buyers to beware of.
