We won't put ours up before that either. We wait until the kids have finished school/uni then they do all the decorations (except last year daughter put up tinsel over the mantelpiece which promptly fell down breaking some of my ornaments :( ). We used to have an artificial tree - then went a few years with a real one - but I just can't stand the mess, so got a ghastly fibre optic one - but too stingy to throw it out and get another one :D

I know how you feel!
We are considering an artificial tree, but we do love the smell of the real ones! I don't think i can have an artificial one, it won't feel the same.
We might get a non-dropping tree, although they are expensive, we think it may be worth it.
Has anyone had a non-dropping tree before? Any good?

First time at home for a few years - usually go to a hotel but with 2 young pups we are staying at home this year.
Has to be a real tree and will go up weekend after next 12/13 Dec as soon as we find somewhere safe.

I put mine up the day after the kids finish school. Which I think this year will be the 19th!!!!!!!
I get a real Xmas tree. But that is more for the fact, that when my son was 4, my dad decided to go out and get theirs and ours from the field(with saw to cut our own down) So after 5 years of this it has turned into a tradition. If I buy an artificial tree there would be murder!!!!!!(from my father not my kids!!!!!!)
Just a bit concerned this year. I now have a thief. It goes by the name of Beano. Bit concerned about mny baubles and tinsel this year LMAO
Lea :)

We always put ours up on the last weekend before Christmas. This is a compromise between hubby and me...HE wants the decs up on Christmas Eve and I want mine up about 2 and a half weeks before
:D

Do you have a real tree?
Tradition dictates our plastic tree is decked on my birthday the 12th December - it has been like that since I was little.

Our decorations don't go up till Christmas Eve. When the Boy was little it stopped him getting over-excited, and now it's traditional. The (real) tree is ceremoniously brought in from the garden, the CD of carols is put on, and we all sing along while we decorate it.
Good fun!

Probably put the tree up next weekend....having a real one for the first time in many years-just worried the boys might see it as a new inside doggy loo LOL .
Many people in our streey have theirs up now...some have been up for a couple of weeks or longer.

There's been a few decorations up since the middle of November

in the Sunderland area.....could never put mine up that early.
I'd prefer to put them up Christmas Eve, but kids and partner always want them up earlier, so we compromise........they usually go up a week or 2 before.
Like JG, we always put the Christmas CD on, and have a nice glass of wine, and make it a lovely family occassion.
I love all the niceness that Christmas brings, but can't understand these people that put the decs. up in November.

The only rule around our house is that the decorating is a family affair. So now that my sister and I are both not living at home, we have to wait until we are home. I think this year it will either happen on the 19th or 20th. However, I plan on putting up lights at my house tonight. I love the Christmas season and like to spread it out. As for trees, we used to get a real one, but my mom and sister developed an allergy so we had to give in and go with the fake kind. I used to love tree hunting with my grandpa.
I have to say I am a stickler for Traditions, so when something gets changed, I'm usually not real happy about it.
just finished putting it up just window lights tommorow

I Put mine up on the 21st (a bit of paganism creeping in here I think) when pups around I use a little artificial tree, perched somewhere high, but wehn the dog situation allows I like to get one of the none needel dropping Nordman Firs, with roots in a pot. They really do harldy drop at all. Still has to be perched on the windowsill, though, to prevent too much dog attack, but even that does not keep it safe from the cat.
bye
