Topic Dog Boards / Showing / Thanking judges?
- By Freedom2010 [gb] Date 01.12.03 13:01 UTC
Just a quick question.  If as a very inexperienced and nervous handler you come under a judge who is particularly patient, helpful and encouraging would it be wrong to write a brief note thanking them and saying how much this was appreciated.  I have nearly given up completely after some shows but when a judge is sympathetic and obviously just wants to see my dog at her best it does really make a difference regardless of whether she is ultimately placed or not.
Thanks
Alex

I will normally thank the judge at the show if they have been good with my dog or placed us well.

I don't see anything wrong witha brief note just saying thank you......but watch it the judge may become abit big headed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks Rox
I do always thank the judge in the ring wherever we come (even if we're the only ones thrown out!!) - just habit really.  I just wonder whether the ones who are really helpful realise that it is actually noted and appreciated.

Well I would be delighted, recently someone thanked me for the critique I had written on their dog and I was so pleased, somehow it made me feel it was all worth while.

Thanks, I think I'll go ahead then.  Just didn't want to do it if its 'not the done thing'.

I've wondered about this previously especially after Manchester Champ. show this year.  The judge, the Bracco owners and the other SWD owners really made my day as I won best bitch and res. best of breed with my 11 year old Spanish Water Dog.  There was never any critique in the papers but I had such a wonderful day that I would of loved to of written to the judge to say how everyone enjoyed themselves.

I've wanted to do this too but didnt want to be seen grovelling or anything .
Probably phrased that wrong - I dont mean that anyone who thanks the judge is a groveller !! I wouldnt want others to think I was !! Does that make sense :o
As I havent seen anyone else do it , I just thought it wasnt the done thing . I have wanted to thank certain judges as well.
Although I am always grateful for a judge who will give a piece of advice freely without prompting when he has placed you . :)

Think people do thank judges at the time, and not always the people with the high places either. So if you feel like it do so, it's what makes the world go round.

Just a thought don't do it until you have finnished showing all your dogs though.

treacle----a judge can make a world of difference, more so to a newbie-------you can tell us all who it was, we might know them, -i always thank a judge, --but sometimes if i go further under another judge id bother to let the first one know, and thank them for sending me through, ---judges are  only human  [meant to be] after all,   :D

Sorry, couldn't log on yesterday.  Yes I was worried about being thought to grovel so what I've decided to do is wait until I see the judge at another show (not as a judge!) and thank them then.  I agree dizzy, it can (and did) make a world of difference - this particular judge was helpful in such a way that it didn't make me feel stupid (although I did a lot more running than anyone else!) but was indeed a great help not only on the day but for the future - sorry, not phrasing this well but I learnt a lot.  I won't put the name on purely in case the judge would not want me to - I am very new to showing and very wary of upsetting anyone inadvertantly.
Thanks and best wishes
