Chloe
red just gets me drunk too quickly and I have a worse hangover with it too :D

1. Its cheaper to get the desired effect
2. You just need to increase your tolerance - see note number 1
:)
Oh I agree Chloe! Red is best :)

I'm off it for a week and am ploughing through a bottle of vodka with diet coke (slowly). Depressed doesn't come close. I miss my Merlot :(
By lel
Date 30.11.03 23:13 UTC

I would never get up in the morning if I was to partake with the Vodka

although I do love it on a night out especially with lime and ice :)
Ooooh yuk! I don't do Vodka, and as for diet coke, I only like the full-fat :D
So why no red wine Chloe?

Because I am having a red wine detox (apparently) . Having managed to build a tolerance up to drinking a bottle every night to myself with no ill effects it is both expensive and too fattening in that volume. I also find myself wandering too closely to the "red wine in a box" aisle in Tesco too often...so i am having a week off.
I always have a back up bottle of vodka - but the diet coke is really pushing my patience - its making drinking painful :( :D

Ahhh but you don't have to drink the whole box in one sitting and it beats having to take the empty bottles to the recycling bin!! :D

True...I have tried boxes, but I prefer bottles cos I like to change daily, one day a good merlot, the next a shiraz...then a cabernet sauvignon...and that doesn't even take into account which area I decide to buy from...decisions decisions!!
By LJS
Date 01.12.03 14:28 UTC

I must admit we normally buy in bulk and make sure our wine rack (60) bottles is always full but it is half full with wine other people have brought round that we don't like :(
By Daisy
Date 01.12.03 15:21 UTC
That sort of bottle is very useful when the school etc want donations for raffles :) The only problem is that we sometimes win them back again :D
Daisy

Chloe, you sound like my kind of girl!!
Wish I could get away with a bottle every night....but hubby says a big fat NO!! I can only have wine every other night,if that. It's not bloody fair!!
I'm sure it's what keeps me going you know!! Other than that, I'm quite healthy and active.
According to hubby, wine is my problem....according to me, hubby is my problem!!!
Take care

:D :D!!
Well, this evening, we went for a meal. I had fillet with a stilton sauce, lovingly washed down with 2 glasses (medium - not large) of Tempranillo. And now I've hit the...ovaltine

Ooooh my fave subject - Wine! It comes in handy as well having done exams in the subject and also working for a company that buys and sells gallons of it. However wine is like art and is very much down to personal choice. I personally prefer white however will touch the odd drop of red providing it has been slightly chilled (room temp these days is far too warm) One of my faves is from a Chilean estate Errazuriz their Chardonnay is to die for however they also do a mean Cab Sav try for the reserve if you can. You cannot beat a lot of the new world wines these days and would choose them over French any day.

Eeeh our Libs, you told me you had no vices, I can see you staggering towards me at Crufts with me badge, fags in one hand, bottle of wine in the other.....
Is there anything else you'd like to tell me ;)
Geoff :)

couldn't possibly tell you on a public message board Geoff ;)
liberty (with slightly tarnished halo) :D
Hi
Yes, red is best!
Dear darling husband brought ouzo back from Cyprus and has forgone the red to drink that - I think it smells disgusting just like Gaviscon (anti-indigestion medicine)
The only white I like is a good Cava.
Cheers

When I win the lottery I will drink Bollinger morning, noon and night - I just
LOVE a good champagne but for now will have to make do with wine
Still have a bottle in the fridge from the engagement and I swear it calls to me sometimes ..... ;)

Lol Lel....fellow Bolly lover here.
I'm hoping to win the lottery, then I'll bathe in the stuff, but until then, I'll make do with Jacobs creek. :(
Will send some Bollinger your way if I win this week!

Lesley, I also think you should drink red, and that's from a reformed white drinker ;) Or vodka, even better!!! But if you insist on drinking white with your chips, look for one made with the Gewürztraminer grape, in the German or French wine sections :D It's delicious, tastes of rose petals :)

Hi Lel
Don't listen to them - there's nothing wrong with white! Red wine does contain all those lovely little blood thinning qualities, but equally, it's more likely to give you a hangover. Not good on a school night!
Gewürztraminer is lush - it's a dry white but tastes very sweet. Also good and inexpensive is Rosemount's Semillion Chardonnay. I drink it like juice from the fridge.

Some really, really good wine that we have had recently is from the Nelson region in New Zealand - very fruity and morish :) A bit pricey - not sure what your budget is.
Daisy
Should have said that it is a Sauvignon Blanc - Muritai or McCashins - really tasty - certainly not for putting on chips :D

Dry White Wine. One word....WHY?? :D :D :D
By Daisy
Date 01.12.03 11:45 UTC
Definitely not dry - very fruity. Our favourites are normally reds, but this area was recommended to us and we bought a mixed case - wonderful - had intended to keep them for Xmas but don't know if there will be any left :D
Daisy

Because it doesn't stain as much as red ... and sweet white wine is undrinkable!
;)

Unless it is Monbazillac which is divine :D

Or Eiswein :D - heaven as well :D
Daisy

Montbazillac!!

Surely you're joking! It's vile - like drinking golden syrup. We had to pour it down the sink ...
By Daisy
Date 01.12.03 14:20 UTC
I love it - got the taste for it when we visited Chateau Monbazillac in 1980 - but we don't drink it like normal wine - only sip small quantities with dessert when we want to be posh and have certain friends for dinner - we still have one bottle left from 1980. However, since being introduced to Eiswein by our Slovenian friends - I prefer that now, but again it's a treat, rarely drunk (too expensive and it only comes in half bottles) :D
Usually guzzle El Bombero - Spanish red (15%)

If its got alchol in it its fair game in my house. If its open drink it. If its not, open it and drink it.
We like the 'Hardy' white wines, especially the Semillion Chardonnay (approx same price as Jacobs Creek). Our real fave is Kumala Colombard Chardonnay - South African, goes with most things and is not at all vinegary!!!
I personally can't stand red wine, I'm not a big drinker so prefer a light drink (big fan of Pimms!) :)

I love pimms too chaliepud, but wish I knew exactly what to do with it.
What fruits do you use?
Lisa
Hi Lisa
Sorry not to reply before, combination of being offline (Child No 1 poured coke on OLD computer, and being busy with our new pup). We use strawberries, apples and cucumber and of course plenty of ice! Definitely no citrus fruits, not sure why but they just don't work

Hmmmm, sweet white wine is pretty disgusting, but a nice...cold....dryyyyyyyy white is divine!!!!!
I can see it now, a cold glass and even colder wine inside it, the glass gets condensed up with the chill, then enjoy the luverly taste before refilling!
Lol! :D

You don't spill it? I'm impressed! I have to confess that I can occasionally be a tad clumsy when I'm halfway through my second bottle ... :o
:D
Avoid the red wine currently on offer at Budgens (? an African cabernet shiraz) it tastes like burning plastic smells!
The only whites I like are "fizzy" ones!
Red wine is definely best, does not give the hangovers that white does

Have to say I'm a red wine fan, but I'll never turn down a glass or three of Chablis. I'd definately recommend it, especially if you get a premier cru - pricey, but worth every penny!
best wishes Jenny
