Hi,
I have been the proud owner of three staffies in total one of which I lost recently who have a fantastic temprament and are wonderful with children, however I would never trust any dog 100% with children as you don't what the child is likely to do and poss toment the child, however I have 2 children who were toddlers when I first had my staffies and had no problems at all. Staffies need a lot of love and attention, all of my staffies have got on with each other infact I have only recently had murphy who is 5 months old as we lost Jake who was 3 back in the summer, however both of these dogs have got on great with Ruby who is 18 months, you should be ok as long as your dog gets on with other dogs, however I would suggest get a young puppy rather than an older one as you will probably have less problems.
Hope this helps.

I'm looking for a staffi too :D Do you want it as a pet or to show? If you want a family pet there are staffi rescue centres around the country who will match you with a suitable dog - they are fantastic at readjusting to new homes (one reason why they are stolen :() and you could avoid the mess and hard work that goes with puppy training.
If you want to show it (I hope to) then it's a matter of seeing what type of dog you want and finding a good breeder who will then ask you about 100 questions then, if you are lucky, put you on a waiting list! ;)
There's lots on here with staffi's so you'll get lots of advise - I'm still waiting for mine so I can only help you with finding one!

As already mentioned they are superb dogs with children :)
Staffys have lots of energy but are couch potatoes too (if that makes sense)
I would recommend only going to a decent breeder who breeds for temperament as well as looks and health :)
Temperament is so important .
Good luck in your search

Staffies are excellent with kids.My two year old male has the run of the house and chooses to sleep on the spare bed in the kids bedroom. We got him at eight wks old so he grew up knowing our rules from day one. The only time I have to reprimand him is when we get visitors,as he wants to lick them to death! They are very affectionate.
Im not suggesting that you shouldnt get a rescue dog,as in most cases they would get on well with everybody.Personally, with kids,I would always take on a young pup and learn it from scratch.
With other dogs u have to be careful. My own male is a softie around smaller and non threatening breeds, but can be a handfull around larger, dominant breeds.Saying that he is great friends with a male GSD that he has known from a puppy. Just be aware that they can be fiery around dogs.
You didnt say what sex ur Lab was,but if a male and dominant,I would strongly advise a bitch staffie.Obviously neutering or keeping them apart at sensitive times.
Hope this helps

hello,
If you have enough love to give to a staffie, and enough time to keep them occupied, and are capable of keeping up with great level of exersice then you couldn't ask for a better breed of dog.
Extremely lovable, extra mard and affectionate. Intelligent and loyal.
They are very powerful dogs and need to be occupied extensively.
I am currently awaiting the arrival of an offspring from my male 18 month staff.
In my oppinion staffs have copious amounts of character. And i would reccomend them all the way.
HOWEVER in some cases staffs are not dog-friendly, yet if you purchase one from a puppy they can grow up with your exsisting dog and there should be few problems. If your lab is dog-friendly.
Let us know if you get one xx good luck xx

My experience with Staffs has only ever been fantastic. I have a 4 year old bitch who has just had her first litter 3 weeks ago. She is absolutely fantastic with children, especially babies! The only problem we have with her is the visitor thing that someone previously mentioned! Oh.....and they like to sit on peoples knees....not light dogs to sit on your knee! She is very loyal and affectionate. But staffs can be a wee bit stubborn sometimes! Good luck in your search!
