She will be missing either her dam or her litter mates. Has she been properly weaned, or was she still taking some milk & comfort from Mum.

You must leave her alone. If you tend to her every night, she will realise that when she cries, you come and make a fuss. This needs to be broken. Leave her alone when she cried. You didn't say how long you have had her for, but if she is 6 weeks, then i presume you have only just taken her home. It might takea few restless nights, but it is worth it,. She will learn that you do not come if she cries, and she will become a better dog to live with.

Please do not follow this posters 'advice' - this pup NEEDS security to grow into a well mannered happy dog - the time for teaching her you don't come when she makes a fuss is later. For lots of answers to puppy questions get yourself a copy of The Perfect Puppy by Gwen Bailey. I know Gwen herself has a new pup, and it sleeps in a cardboard box by her bed at night - after 10 days he has stopped waking in the night - wonder what he's learnt? I think it's that 'Mum' is near and there is nothing to worry about, not that if he calls nobody comes - I know which I'd rather my pup was learning....

Hi,
Poor baby is very lonely and scared. Can you have her crate by your bed so that she doesn't feel entirely abandoned? If not, make sure she has a jumper that smells of you to cuddle up with. Did the breeder not give you a piece of the blanket the litter was sleeping on, that smelt of her mother and brother and sisters? If not, are they close enough for you to pop back and get a piece, or take a piece of your own over and leave it for a couple of days?
:)
Hi JG
Don't you mean put a piece of bedding in with the litter for a couple of hours :D In a couple of days it would be filthy. Although pups are generally getting "clean" by this age and going away from their nest their feet never seem to learn not to paddle in it and they then take it back to their bed where it gets wiped off
Christine

To be honest, with mine I left a blanket in for a week and it didn't get pooey, but those were summer pups who spent a lot of time outside. A bit different at this time of year!
:)
