Topic Dog Boards / General / agressive akita - attack (locked)
- By i_love_dogs [gb] Date 29.11.03 22:31 UTC
just out walking my dog, not in our local area. we were just walking towards the woods, when this massive akita came out, i froze, and looked away, (the akita was OFFLEAD) hoping it would turn around, i could hear a man calling it. my dog was just frozen, until the akita started snarling, i didnt know what to do, but before i could think, the dog was lunging at mine, i was so scared as mine was crying and yelping, i tried throwing my water over the akita, but it was really going for it, so i tried to kick it off (i know its creul but i wasnt going to let it kill my dog) time seemed to go on and on, i was getting so hopeless, i was pushing the dog, hitting it with a stick, i feared for my dogs life. eventually the dog ran off. my dog is now at the vets, they said he should be fine, but are keeping him in for a couple of days, he has deep wound marks on him, and is in heavy shock!

what on earth was it doing off lead!!

Healing thoughts for my little man!x x
- By Alexanders [gb] Date 29.11.03 22:44 UTC
OMG how awful for you and your dog.  I hope he will be fine.  I think you should report it to the police - who knows what or who the dog may attack next.

Hope you are okay and that your dog gets better soon.

Have to admit Akitas not my favourite breed. My boy hates them with a passion since he was in his crate at a show and an owner insisted on walking his Akita up and down constantly past him. Every time it went past the dog barked at my boy - result? He is now very protective of his crate and has to be put on lead every time he sees an Akita!!! :(

Clever you thinking to take water with you! Did it work?
:)

Oh yes! I was slow - didnt think of that at the time, must be slipping. How did you carry the water?
- By jacki [gb] Date 30.11.03 00:05 UTC
i get really confused with your posts 'i love dogs' because....
1) you have a cairn terrier male and a puppy male lab, thats all
2) you have a 2yr old bitch lab (not mentioned on other posts, when asked what breed you have)
3) a litter of pups, where did they come from?
4) a friends lab you look after
5) a leonburger
which dog got attacked by the akita? and can you put me right on what you have, think it must be my age but i am so confused :) thanks
- By kahnandkcsmum [gb] Date 30.11.03 00:23 UTC
yea jacki,  i did wonder but i was not going to say anything, i just be nosey most of the time.!
- By sandaharr [gb] Date 30.11.03 08:07 UTC
Well,i love dogs if that was another fabrication thanks for getting the akita even more of a bad rep. and if it wasn't, of course you report them to the police, responsible akita owners don't let their dogs run free when there is even the slightest chance that others are around,Sandra(responsible owner of 4 akitas!!!!)
- By Jackie H [gb] Date 30.11.03 08:19 UTC
Akitas are such beautiful dogs that went through a bad patch of bad breeding, things seem better now but like all dogs they can only be as good as their owners/breeders.

Think in this case it may have been the Oxfordshire Panther!
- By archer [gb] Date 30.11.03 08:47 UTC
Can only make you wonder what sad lives people lead that they need to get their pleasure from making up stories on here.....stopped making up stories when I was about 6 I think...or maybe I have no imagination anymore

- By i_love_dogs [gb] Date 30.11.03 09:43 UTC
sandaharr, i love akita's, they are beautiful dogs, i have nothing against the breed, it could have been any breed that attacked my dog, but it was an akita.

thanks everyone for the support

i always carry small bottle of water with me when i go for long walks. i work at a labrador breeding kennels, i was enquiring about one of the bitches there, and also there are puppies with another one of the bitches.
yes i have a cairn, and a male lab pup, i exercise them seperatly, so i can train the lab, without influence of cairn.
i dont have a leonberger, although i'd like one lol!

my cairn was attacked.

any more questions?
sorry for the confused i have put across!
- By xaraworlds [gb] Date 30.11.03 09:45 UTC
Well if you work at a breeding kennels..and the pups were a litter there...what on earth were you asking about when was best to let potential owners come visit them? Surely the breeder knows this or is this her first litter ????

Donna x
- By i_love_dogs [gb] Date 30.11.03 09:48 UTC
this is my first litter i have worked with, i was just wondering, because i thought 3 weeks was a little bit young, the breeder has had loads of litters, i just wanted to know what other people thought was an ok age.
- By jeanb [gb] Date 30.11.03 11:09 UTC
I,too have been puzzled by a few of your posts over the last few weeks, regarding different topics and different dogs. On 12th Nov you posted in rainbow bridge about your lab pup dying from complications of kennel cough. In 17th and 19th Nov you were asking about protein levels and advice on feeding a lab pup.I take it you had 2 of them then. If,indeed your lab did die, then accept my sympathy and apologies. If you work with labs in a breeding kennels, then why do you need to ask on here about protein levels etc.?The people on this site are very helpful to anyone who has a problem, and sympathetic to someone who loses a pet,and if you need advice you will be helped, but something just doesn't ring true with you.
- By i_love_dogs [gb] Date 30.11.03 14:20 UTC
why are you all deciding to gang up on me, on april 7th my choc lab died. i got another lab puppy in oct.
i do work with labs in a breeding kennels, but i work there i dont run it, i havent been working there for long, i dont/didnt know much bout protein for dogs, so was looking for friendly advice.

whats so untrue about me??

on dogpages?
yea i was kicked off for having an opinion, and slagged off about, and having people say they would have their big dogs eat mine!
- By jeanb [gb] Date 30.11.03 16:14 UTC
What is"untrue" about you,is the fact that you have posted contradictory statements on various forums. To be a good liar, you need a good memory, and you have slipped up on many occasions.Nobody minds you asking questions on the various breeds etc.,but some of your threads have been a waste of time, and people have been good enough to respond to you in good faith.Nobody likes being taken for a fool
- By i_love_dogs [gb] Date 30.11.03 16:19 UTC
why have my posts been a waste of time?

Where have i "slipped up"?
- By jeanb [gb] Date 30.11.03 16:36 UTC
I have said all I am going to say,Gemma. the best thing to do,is go back and read them
- By i_love_dogs [gb] Date 30.11.03 16:39 UTC
if youre going to say something please back it up, what have i done thats so wrong?

asked for info on breeds?
im sure u'd agree its better to find the perfect dog for your lifestyle, than get any!
- By jeanb [gb] Date 01.12.03 10:49 UTC
Gemma,Its not the end of the world if you are making up fabrications, perhaps calling you a liar was a bit strong, and i apologise for that.Maybe you just like the attention of people replying to your posts. It's like the boy who cried"wolf".If the Akita attack is genuine, and your little dog suffered deep throat wounds and is receiving vet care, then everyone on here will be on your side .but if this is another fabrication, then who is going to believe you the next time, when you may have a genuine problem?
- By d4wnekelly [gb] Date 30.11.03 22:05 UTC
jeanb,

I've been looking back at some of the subjects this girl has been  posting about, can't find them all, they do seem a bit all over.
There's no rhyme nor reason for her to need to ask about all these different subjects. She joined in July and out of the posts I can find if she owned the dogs that she seems to then I wish I had the money she has.
My advice would be, i love dogs, if you're only young admit you've been sussed.Apologise and I'm sure if the posts you submit in future are above board and honest I am sure you will be forgiven, albeit because you are young.
I agree, everyone, it does seem as if she has been taking the p**s but give her another chance I know that you are all very nice people.
You never know with our support i love dogs may not feel the need to draw attention to herself in this manner.

Have a heart.
Everyone.

Some quotes from DPs by i love dogs (aka madaboutdogs):

"hello after making a terrible mistake with my last lab puppy, i'd love some information on how much exercise to give a lab pup growing up, eg, how much at 4 months, 6 months, 8 months, 10 - 1 year."

"thank you for the help!!
i had a choc lab, who i exercised too much too young, she got OCD, which wasnt pleasant for her. and me!"

"i lost my 10 month old choc lab girl to autoimmune, "

OK, you've got me confused - which is it? How many pups have you had?
- By sandaharr [gb] Date 30.11.03 19:07 UTC
Kathy m,I take it from Ilove dogs that she is either very young or very, never mind ,don't want to bitch, but possibly she'll learn that to be a good liar you have to have a very good memory!!!!Sandra.
- By Rozzer [gb] Date 30.11.03 19:26 UTC
Back to the cairn!!!  I'm very sorry to hear he has been wounded in this attack - Do you know the owner/dog?  Do you see them regularly?  At the very least I think that the owner of the akita should pay your vets fee's - I would be fuming if a dog did that to mine - Personally I would be going to the police, but thats me!  Hope your cairn gets better soon and that he/she isn't permantly, mentally scarred by this.
Sarah
- By xaraworlds [gb] Date 30.11.03 19:36 UTC
Yes i hope this akita attack as Gemma calls it is true(not for the cairn obviously) ...otherwise the poor akita gets more black marks against its name from silly people and im afriad from what i know of the poster i take everything said with a tonne of salt!

hi

hitting the attacking dog would have made matters worse ,it would have felt pain and made it attack more ferocously dogs will stop when the other submits unwittenly you actually made matters worse, but you probably understandebly panicked and just for the record its rather rude everybody accusing you of lying!!
- By Rozzer [gb] Date 30.11.03 23:16 UTC
I would have done the same though Jackie, some dogs might not stop until the other is dead!  An akita is quite a force for a little cairn - Have to say if it was my dog it would have had my boot up its a** - whatever the risk to me!  I blame the owner!  To be honest the majority of us would be helpless in such a situation especially if the owner was elderly - if your dog was capable of that then keep it on a blasted lead!
Sarah
PS - You know...Not you personally Jackie :)

I could'nt, agree more rozzer.

- By i_love_dogs [gb] Date 01.12.03 17:23 UTC
ive had 2 labs, onto my third. my second had kennel cough and OCD
- By Lokis mum [gb] Date 01.12.03 17:31 UTC
..so who did the Cairn that was attacked belong to?  How is it?     If it doesn't belong to you, but you were "looking after" it - what do the owners intend to do?
- By angienelly [gb] Date 01.12.03 14:55 UTC
I have not been on here for a while but............................................IMO if an akita had hold of your cairn terrier by the throat it would not be in the vets but dead.Sorry JMO.
& i know if it had attacked one of my dogs i'd be after it with the police & if they didn't do anything i'd lie in wait for its next 'walkies' & have a gun ready! Just think if that was a child with their dog? Dosen't bear thinking about.
- By bulldogowner [gb] Date 01.12.03 15:06 UTC
I have been searching and searching through the posts, and im sure this isnt the first time that a "supposed" Akita, has attacked one this ladys dogs.
Sounds like she has something against the breed, which is a great shame, i think they are wonderful.
Dean.
- By i_love_dogs [gb] Date 01.12.03 17:30 UTC
my cairn is doing well thanks, luckily no major damage, i dont care if people think im lying lol.
just for the record im 17, i have a wide experience of dogs, and before anyone says it, i dont think im less knowledgeable (SP) just because of my age.

i had looked after many many breeds of dogs, and feel i have just about the same amount of knowledge you lot have, if not more.

i know people are going to make fun of my age and stuff, but frankly i dont care, im here to talk about my love of dogs, not be be accused of lying or as someone sed, take the p*ss!

thanks for the people concerned for my terrier.
all the best

Gemma, your posts are confusing.... you haven't been exactly forthcoming, and getting information from you, in order to help you, has been like drawing teeth!

People are helpful and sympathetic if they have the whole story - but little bits and pieces makes everyone suspicious - sad but true!  No one is putting you down because of your age - you are older than some other posters who post on here - but be honest, don't pretend to have knowledge/experience that you don't have - we are all capable of learning more.

Margot
- By i_love_dogs [gb] Date 01.12.03 17:38 UTC
thanks for the reply, im not pretending to have any knowledge or experience, i have it.
i know its hard to imagine i could, but ever since i could read ive read about dogs, growing up had dogs, ever since i could walk, ive been with dogs.
to be honest i dont think anyone could quite believe my knowledge and sheer love for them.
