Topic Dog Boards / Visitors Questions / Bitch - three days after whelping?
- By guest [us] Date 24.02.02 03:35 UTC
My Maltese gave birth to six healthy puppies three days ago. They were early at 57 days but big and healthy. She is a model mother, however today she has begun to scratch away 'making her nest' and behaving in a very agitated fashion, even picking up two puppies one after the other and trying to hide them under a chair. She was moved out of where she normally sleeps, which was prepared for the puppies and where she had them, for the last two nights for fear of the puppies getting too cold. They have all been returned now and the room kept fairly dark. I have been helped on this site before and would appreciate any advice. Thank you.

Think she needs a vet asap. Sounds as if it may be Eclampsia don't wait ring now. JH

Agree with Jackie - contact vet now, even if it is Sunday night. Could be low blood sugar in addition.
