Hi.

Do any of you know what the largest dog breed in the world is? I am just interested, and could not find it on the net. I think it may be the irish wolfhound?

Depends what you mean by largest - usually means tallest, but could mean heaviest?

well, i mean tallest really, but that masfiff sure was big!

ok, ok, i know this is not exactly true to the subject of "largest dog breed", but now i have been searching some more and found these facts

Smallest Dog
The smallest dog on record was a matchbox-sized Yorkshire terrier owned by Arthur Marples of Blackburn, England. This tiny creature, which died in 1945 at the age of nearly two years, stood 2 ½ inches tall at the shoulder and measured 3 ½ inches from the tip of it's nose to the base of its tail. It weighed only four ounces.

Tallest Dog
The tallest dog on record was named Shamgret Danzas. He was 42 inches tall (at the shoulder!) and weighed 238 lbs.

Heaviest Dog
The worlds heaviest as well as longest dog ever recorded was an Old English Mastiff named Zorba. In 1989, Zorba weighed 343 lbs and was 8 feet 3 inches long from nose to tail!

i have a pic of zorba sum wer he is really huge you have to see it to believe it.some sage kochees are huge and kangal but the most massive i have seen on pics are tosa and oemastiffs

I saw a program once saying the Great Danes are the tallest dogs, followed by the wolfhound.

It depends on what you mean. The tallest dog at the shoulders is the Irish Wolfhound however at the top of the ears its the great dane. And actually the tallest dog in the world was one called harvey who was a great dane that measured 5ft at the shoulders. Can you imagine that?

I heard about the biggest St.Bernard that his head was the size of a grizzly. I guess they stuffed him and they had to use a grizzly bear head for the mold. I can't seem to find it right now, maybe I'll come by it again.
