Topic Dog Boards / Health / How much sleep?
- By barbara-annie [gb] Date 24.02.02 09:15 UTC
Yet another question!!!
How long should a 10 week old pup sleep? gets up at 6.30 b'fast toilet - play & then sleeps for about an hour 1/2, then up out in garden for a play & lead session (also likes my son's old skate board!! (this maybe goes on another hour then sleep etc ... so its up play for about an hour-hour & 1/2 - then sleepy again- He will be 10 weeks old tomorrow Is this the kind of pattern He should be having?

Don't worry Annie, thats about par for the course. At that age there is an awful lot of growing to do so the sleep is very necessary.

Hello Annie, I too have a puppy who will be 10 weeks old tomorrow. Mine sleeps lots and plays when not sleeping. My puppy got up at 8.15 this morning and toiletted and had b'fast then played for a while then fell asleep. Woke up went to wee again and then played and is now asleep again at my feet. Lunchtime soon, so we will be out toiletting again after lunch. They are growing so quickly at the moment and need all the sleep they can get. But they also need to play and learn how to interact with other dogs. Have you heard of the puppy parties? some vets hold them, they are grea fun and a great way to socialise your puppy.

Best regards
Lynn

Hi Lynn,
Yes ,we are hopefully going to a puppy party the week after next ,that our vet is holding me and the children are taking him. They do sound fun! The pups are great aren't they?

Hi Annie, Your post reminds me of my first puppy and I worried just as much as you. Took him to the vet for his first jab and asked the vet after she had done it if there would be and side effects, she said he may be a bit sleepy, we both look down at him on the examination table and yes he was fast asleep, the vet said I didn't mean that quick. A few weeks later I called him in from the garden and he came running, then suddenly he rolled over and lay very still, I thought he had had some sort of a seasure and rushed up the garden to him, he was asleep, I picked him up to bring him in and he had the cheek to growl at me, I was so pleased I did not even tell him no. Hi Jackie

I see what you mean !- If you could have seen me 1/2 an hour ago trying to empty the washing machine & load the tumble dryer & chase Oliver who was taking everything as I took it out!! there were clothes everywhere I thought Oh God I'm a failure! I mean this is a small puppy!!! Surely I'm in control here - Somehow I don't think I am!! The kitchen looked like a Bomb had hit it!!
Anyway after a coffee and a cuddle from my "helpful" little boy all is well again. (sigh)
Is this really only MONDAY!!

You want to try it with four.
My litter are 7 weeks today and are into everything.
Thankfully I can see why God created puppy to sleep a lot.
If they didn"t I would go crazy.
4 lots of wee 4 lots of poo 16 scratching feet. My kids walk on the
kitchen counters to get there food or drink so they don"t have to put
there feet on the floor. Its all good fun.

I know exactly what you mean! My three are now 6 1/2 weeks old and of course are even smaller than yours. Whenever I stand still a puppy will get inbetween my feet or just in front or behind me. You develop a sort of 'puppy shuffle' as you move around so that you don't stand on one of the puppies who can race around at the most amazing speed for creatures so small.

They now spend a lot of time playing with the older dogs. Their father, who is just a year old and normally a real hooligan, is so gentle with them and patiently allows them to climb all over him, tug his beard and generally be real pests. Granny and Great Granny are very good for snuggling up against and going to sleep.

Griffon Bruxellois, so when full grown shouldn't weigh more than 11 or 12 lbs.
