Hi, Well I've finally got my puppy, picked him up last Saturday and although I'm a new puppy owner things are going relatively smoothly (touches wood!) he's sleeping in a crate with door open during day, I only close the door to let him know it's night time. We have an older rescue dog Nell (13). The first night Dicksy (pup) was crying and I knew he was safe locked in his crate when I heard a big woof! (well a Lhasa woof) and the pup has slept every night since all night! I feel Nell was just saying quiet as she has been wonderful with the pup a few warning growls but the problem I have is the pup is 95% clean in the house but Nell has started soiling in the lounge the dining room anywhere she gets, it's not because she is left out as if anything we are paying more attention to her than before and she is not following Dicksy's habit as he's outside every half hour when awake any ideas? Common sense tells me it has to be the result of bringing Dicksy into the family but anyone offer any explanation as to why or how to stop it, I have so far been ignoring her. Many thanks Lesley

I think you're on the right track in that it's her displaying her feelings about the new disruption - you'll probably find that with time she'll stop doing it - so continue to ignore her (maybe increase the time you spend alone with her), put her out when you have to clean up after her (so she doesn't get a whiff of your body language - patience can wear thin after the 20th time ;)), use biological washing powder solution and a wipe over with white spirit if possible (ie if the material soiled allows) to minimise the 'marking territory' aspect......
Good luck with your new baby :)

Thanks for advise and just had to tell you she's been clean all day today so maybe I was just panicking. However, today is the day I change the bedding in her basket and Nell has always had a dry complete food and she never eats from a bowl always takes it out and puts it on floor carefully selecting everything but the little white bones, these normally go up the hoover, I haven't hoovered any up for a couple of days and thought Dicksy was eating them...........No she's lying on them under her bedding her bed has loads in there! Must be burying them so he can't have em but she don't want em either! I felt awful binning them but i know he shouldn't have em just yet anyway! They both make me laugh in their own way bless em, she has a new lease of life now Dicksy is with us.
Great to hear Dicksy and Nell settling in so well together. :)
