I got my 13 week old westie only 4 days ago- the breeder had not arranged his innoculations at the correct time so my vet recommended starting again. Ramsay had his first injection last night and his poos have been runny since. Also the vet gave me panacur granules to put in his morning food - he was enthusiastic when he saw the bowl (he loves his food!) but when he got close and could smell it he refused to eat it.   We couldnt coax him to eat it either.
I replaced the food with some without medicine (after washing the bowl really well) but now hes refusing that too.  He is drinking. He seems a bit tired too but maybe thats the injection?

Im going to phone the vet when the surgery opens  but any advice from experienced dog owners would be gratefully received. Ramsey is my first dog and I am so worried.

I found that Hudson was a bit *iffy* after his injections too ..more so after his booster last February......it could just be the jab . If you ask your Vet he/she should be able to put your mind at rest :)

THIS IS THE TIME THAT THEY ARE LOSTING THIEIR TEETH,LIKE A HUMAN  IT HURT AND THEY GO OFF THEIR FOOD TOO,HAVE A LOOK IN THE PUPPY MOUTH TO SEE IF IT HAS LOST ANY YET.

HOPE YOU DIDNT INJECT AND WORM THE THE PUPPY THE SAME WEEK,IF THERE WAS SIDE AFFECT YOU WOULD KNOW WHICH ONE MANY HAVE CAUSE IT,I ALWAYS LEAVE A WEEK IN BETWEEN  THE TWO PRODUCTS.

I would think he's having a mild reaction to the injection. If you've only had him 4 days he's had a lot of upheaval & stress to put up with. His tummy's proabably a bit "off". It isn't a good idea to innoculate & worm very close together, so it's probably just as well he refused his food!
Hope he recovers quickly.

Thanks for the good advice, I wont worm him until next week just to make sure he is OK- though the vet did tell me to do him today.

I phoned the vet and advice was to keep an eye on him and take him to surgery tonight if he didnt pick up.  He vomited this morning and slept a lot today and I was so worried but I kept him snug and encouraged him to drink when he was up.  I didnt feed him again for a few hours but tried to get him to drink more (wetting my fingers for him to lick it off!) as he had diarrhoea as well. He seems better now. Gave him a very light meal at teatime as he was hungry which has stayed down and his poos are slightly firmer, so I guess hes over the worst.  He is playing with his toys and more active now so looks like it was the injection and hes getting better again, thank goodness.  If he is not back to normal by tomorrow morning I'll take him to the vet first thing.

I really hope he doesnt suffer as much when he has his next injection in 2 weeks. Will he be more tolerant of his jabs as he gets older?
