Someone please help me before i decide to curl up and die lol! Of late my 2 year old akita bitch has done nothing but bark! at everything most times i don't know what she is barking at. I have tried telling her to shut up which she does for a few mins then starts again. She isn't barking for attention i don't think because she looks down the yard when barking and never toward the house. I wouldn't mind but when she starts it sets the other two off! New neighbours are moving in next door and i doubt they will take too kindly to her barking. This morining i was woken at 4 am with her carry on...... Its becoming un-bearable!
Thanks for any tips x

How about not letting her out unattended - that way you might get a better idea of what is stimulating her to bark (a friend of mine had a similar problem, and discovered it was the neighbour (who was anti dog) barking back.........) Other wise, give her something else to do - when she starts barking, call her, ask for a sit if she knows the command, and throw a ball for her, anything to break up the cycle of barking (which in itself is rewarding to the dog)

i sujjest you do one of two things
1) invest in a water squirtie (really cheep from garden centers) and when she barks squirt this at her and give her a command to shut up if you wish.
2) Get a tin of a few largish stones and when ever she barks shake this near her ear. They wont like the sond so you will have thier attention to tell them to be quite.
Personally i use the water as you can get them from a distance and i have use it on all our dogs to be quite or it is used to get off the sofa!!!
I hope that one of them will work for you

Hi Digger and Ice Queen,
Thanks for the tips. Diger> My dog lives out side in a large run, and at the moment we have no neighbours we live next to a field in the middle of nowhere lol, so i don't see what she can bark at.
Ice Queen, Tried throwing water at her and everything, she stops then five minutes later away she goes again. I'm stuck as to what to do lol. But thank you so much for your tips i'll give the bottle thing a go! Thanks again

<<a field in the middle of nowhere lol, so i don't see what she can bark at.>>
Foxes, rabbits, pheasant, hedgehogs ... the list is endless!
:)
True enough, but since she has lived here for nearly six months i would say she has kind of gotten used to rabbits etc... We've not had this problem very long it has just started! Believe me i have thought about all of this lol, I just can't see why she keeps barking, she's a little madam lol.
Thanks for all the tips guys! x
