Topic Dog Boards / Breeding / Water just broke
- By bmac [us] Date 26.11.03 21:23 UTC
My girls water just broke about 4 hours ago she has been panting and shivering also, she has yet to start grunting or pushing. Does anyone know how long this process takes before they start delivering the pups. My vet just told me not to let her push for more than 1.5 hours without a pup. But never said how long to let her go before the pushing starts. Thanks in advance for any input

you can have her like that for a good while------its only when they start to push that you need to time her.

She is still just lieing there panting away not even trying to push yet. This sure is a long process......

What is a safe timeframe this should be taking? She still has clear discharge and showing no signs of distress, I just don't like watching her go through this. We are going on 6 hours now.

hang on in there bmac, if she's showing no signs of distress she should be ok for a while yet, if your at all worried ring up the vets, i'm sure they will gladly give you advice and it will settle your mind :)
its so exciting just like xmas, i hope all goes well for her and am thinking about you...good luck :)

this stage could easily go on until tommorow-------its when they start bearing down-pushing that things are on the way-----thats when you only leave it as long as your vet suggested--not this bit :) this bits the boring bit,. !!!!!

- By Zoo Keeper [us] Date 27.11.03 14:00 UTC
Daisy's temp dropped to the same levels, then back up to 99s and she began to whelp about 30 hours after the temp drop. Good luck!
- By bmac [us] Date 27.11.03 19:01 UTC
Cleo is still panting and digging, her temp is still at 98.6. No pushing yet we are 24 hrs in right now. She is miserable. She just started throwing up about 30 min ago. And tries to poo but nothing will come out anymore. I think she is really close. Does this sound close to you guys?
- By Jeangenie [gb] Date 27.11.03 19:08 UTC
Yep, pretty close. The crouching to poo is most likely the first waterbag and/or whelp getting into position, and feeling like a poo. Don't let her outside alone - I've known bitches have the first one outside and leave it assuming it's a poo ...

Good luck.

FANTASTIC NEWS!!

It's making me broody!! I need more pups!

That panting stage is awful isn't it? My bitch started about midnight and I stayed up with her (her first litter, and mine) The first pup arrived at 3pm the next day....not too bad, but it seemed like 130 hours rather than just 13!!

Hope all goes well with the litter. You've got your work cut out for you now, but it's worth it..you'll be so proud!! :D

Take care, and give Mum a great big hug from us!!

Lisa & the gang
xx
