This is not a problem just interested in the possible explainations of why our 4 mth old Shiba inu is besotted with my husbands suede mocasin slippers!! As soon as we sit down to watch tv in the evening Buddy goes mad trying to rub his whole body on my poor hubbys slippers, he literally falls over himself in the process! highly amusing but what is it all about, he's not interested in any other shoes of my husbands or his feet if he's not wearing the slippers, so someone please tell me does my dog have a strange suede fetish or is there some perfectly logical reason for this love affair

Are they the sort of 'inside out' sheepskin? As in real sheepskin? In which case I'd suggest maybe the warmth from hubbies feet is releasing the special smell of dead sheep from the slippers?? Maybe?? Perhaps?........

thats a pretty grim thought! they are real sheepskin though so maybe you're right, better not go near any fields of sheep, imagine the chaos!!

My Schipperkes do a similar thing rubbing their noses along the 'chosen' article followed by their whole face then they flop on their sides and rub their necks along it too so funny to watch and they seem to gain such a large amount of pleasure form doing it too.
I always feel they are scent marking something that has a strong odour or that they really like by way of claiming it lol. All 7 of my dogs do it in order too ie the boss down to the little guy's! The worst thing they will do it in is 'fox or cat pooh' whilst out walking and boy do they need a bath after all that.

Ive got a Rhodesian ridgeback & a mini Daschi that does that and you can't get rid of the smell even after a few baths!

I have that same problem with my shelties. They go out into the fields find wild animal droppings and roll in it. Was told by a professor of animal science that it is their attempt to assimulate themselves into that animals pack.(to show they belong)
Terrible, stinking, mess!

I use tomato juice to bathe them in when they get back - my sis lives in the States and has cats that come home smelling REALLY SWEET a la Peppie Le Phew!

Well I'm glad I'm not the only one with a demented dog!!
our rotty is one for rolling in the most disgusting thing she can find, although she likes to share it with you by trying to walk through your legs!Lets hope she doesn't teach that one to Buddy, I'd rather he stuck with just the slippers!
