'We have just got a Lab puppy and are really interested in training the dog
to the gun. Whilst we intend on going to a club we want a book to start us
off which explains the fundamentals of training in a easy to understand
language as we are novices and want to do things right !!
Can anybody advise me of any good books they can recommend ?

I can recommend a very good book that has been written by a very experienced knowledgable author.
It is written in a way that is easily followed and is an excellant book if you are starting of on this or if you just want sound advice on training any puppy to be a well mannered dog ! :)
I have read it and have got some extremely good tips which has helped with my youngsters!

Gundogs, The laerning Chain by Joe Irvin. Very good book for beginners.
There are also some good gundog training broadsheets for sale written by Eric Begbie - do a search for gundog training broadsheets on google.co.uk and you will find them.
also, N West lab rescue have just published there own gundog training book (written by the wonderful John :-)) Again, do a search for Northwest lab rescue and you should find it.
