i always talk to my dogs. I will walk down the street and get funny looks because i tell my dogs about my day!!!!

Its common for me to talk to my dogs in the ring while standing. They look at me and stand still!:D

Well I'm sure we ALL talk to our dogs, though whether we admit it or not is a different thing!

Yes, I'm another that will get certified for chatting away to may dogs. Six weeks ago I lost a 14 ½ year old Springer and I still find myself chatting to him - it's quite comforting really.

If I have a nervous youngster that I'm taking 'out and about', I actually chat non-stop and they seem to find it reassuring.

We talk to each other about all sorts of things mainly ducks, dinner and the stock exchange.
Occasionally he has strong opinions about the ducks and have to move the conversation onto calmer things, such as lunch.
- By Wishfairy [gb] Date 27.11.03 10:53 UTC
Sam also has strong views on Ducks and what she'd like to do with them

... and if I'm not talking to dogs I'm talking about them :D
- By Lorelei [gb] Date 27.11.03 11:11 UTC
I once asked Morse to go upstairs and ask Dad if he wanted a cup of tea - and he went!:D Actually I enjoy having a companion who dosent talk and gives me space to look around.

- By Sooz [gb] Date 27.11.03 12:01 UTC

When I was younger and fell out with friends I used to always tell my dog about it.

Now as an adult I can often be found talking to my own dogs and also dogs/cats we meet on our walks or live near by.

Some people (not dog and cat lovers of course) will probably think I've lost it becuase you'll hear me saying to next doors cats. wheres mummy and daddy, have they gone out. Actually asked them once if they were missing mummy and daddy when they were on holiday.
- By Lorelei [gb] Date 27.11.03 13:09 UTC
" Mummy and Daddy " is an interesting one. Just before we got Morse I rememeber telling friends we would NOT be calling ourselves Mum and Dad to a dog, oh no :D Now of course we do say Mum and Dad because we cant think of another term for dogs significant others! Does anyone here have an alternative to Mum and Dad?
- By Jackie H [gb] Date 27.11.03 13:12 UTC
OK I own up, all the time, sometimes in a silly voice, and have been know to say sorry to the back of my car if I corner to quick, even if it is empty.
- By gundogsrbest [gb] Date 27.11.03 17:09 UTC
im 'mum' to tess and my mum is her 'nanny' we always talk to our dogs refering to people as mum, nan, sister etc my two youngest sisters think its funny
- By perrodeagua [gb] Date 27.11.03 17:37 UTC
Yes I too talk to my dogs, prefer them to people anyway at this moment in time!!

My Ickle man "uv's me" (loves me) he adores his duck duck (one of his many toys). He loves his chuck, his chicken for his tea. He also loves his chucky eggs. Dilita my old girl is sexy bottom and we go through a long list of who's got a boring bottom etc. until the S word comes out and then it wags away.

I know, I'm mad, but I don't care.

" Story in BRIEF MR B steals my bras.." LOL Does he take the matching knickers too? I hate having uncoordinated underwear in case of accidents so Id be dumping a whole lot of pants if Manic Morse ever gets a taste for lingerie. Stick to socks, boyo!
- By porkie [gb] Date 27.11.03 20:43 UTC
I talk to our dog we lost in August and to the one we are getting in a few weeks time! I'm so sure they would have got on well together.
I also thank the cash machines when they give me money!? Glad to hear I'm not the only one to do daft things though:)
- By Krazyhorse Date 27.11.03 20:56 UTC
I seem to spend more time talking to the dogs than I do to the rest of the family. We have lovely conversations ......with me answering on their behalf (my 2 sons plead with me to refrain from doing this when we have visitors - I do try, but it's not easy !!) :o The dogs also chat away to each other (with a little help from me as they can't always understand each other very well :D

Can't understand why the Boy's (human) don't have friends to stay very often
- By Dexy [gb] Date 27.11.03 21:03 UTC
Lorelei

Yes we are sometimes referred to as "Humans"

My parents are my dog's grandparents.  My roommate is "auntie bonnie".  My mom and dad give my quite the look when I say "go see grandma".  :)  But they're our babies aren't they?

I always talk to Kirra. Before her, on long car rides, I would talk to the two stuffed animals I have sitting on my dash. (that is when I knew I needed something breathing at least). I think if you talk to them like humans they do come to understand you. Kirra sits and cocks her head to one side if someone is talking to her. It really is the cutest thing. I think that people who say that dogs don't understand have never had a dog from puppyhood, and talked to it like you would your friend or kid. They learn to understand. If not your words, your tone and body language.
IMHO cats too can be trained to understand. My sister's kitten comes when it is called, and will sit and listed to you talk. The same cat was playing with my puppy one day and my mom decided it was time for him to go outside. She opened the door and Otar (the cat) went running towards it with Kirra hot on his heels. Right before the door, the cat stopped dead in his tracks and Kirra ran over him and out the door. Otar looked up at mom as if to say, "now close the door and lets be rid of that dog." Mom wasn't fast enough so when Kirra came back in , Otar meowed at mom and took off running again.
I once asked my cat if he was hungry and he looked me in the eye and meowed twice and walked to his food dish.

I talk to the girls all the time, and refer to us as mummy and daddy :) Whenever I go out I tell them exactly where I'm going and when I'll be back!! OH thinks I'm mad :D
- By Jane [gb] Date 27.11.03 21:53 UTC
i talk to the dogs more than i talk to anyone, they dont answer back and love me no matter what i call them.
- By Gee [gb] Date 28.11.03 08:33 UTC
Me too. Gab gab gab all day long...Mummy this, Daddy that. However, I'm a bit taken aback at the conversation about whether they understand us or not...some of you definitely need to ask for your money back!:D :D
