We have 1st visits when Pups are 3 weeks - then choosing at 6 weeks then Pick up after 7 weeks.

Have found this suits us and prospective new owners.

It will be hard if you are looking for good homes for the rest of there days, that is very hard, veting people is one of the hardest tasks in life because some people are very good at telling tales.

as the puppies will be going home for xmas, we are making sure we ask as many questions to the new owners as possible, we want our pups to be loved as more than a pet, and we always make sure people know this.
xx

any advice on how to look out for people just buying for xmas pressies???

Many thanks

Ask them! Don't be afraid to turn people down either. We usually have a long chat before we even let them see the Pups. It is time consuming but worth it.

People who ask many questions are the ones to give a puppy, if they dont ask many questions then watch them VERY carefully.

They should also be happy for you to visit thier home before they have a puppy!

Do a home visit to see where your babies are going, that way you can get a good idea of how the family is.

Suggest that the pup won't be ready 'for Xmas' and see how they react - if they're good prospective owners it won't matter..

How old will the pups be at christmas, could you hold on to them untill after new year, then they will not be going into all the hurlly burlly of the christmas, sorry that is what I would do. However good the family there is always a change in people's routine at christmas

We had one girl telling huge porkies and I just told her I knew she was talking rubbish(she said she had an acre sized garden IN GLASGOW CITY CENTRE),she got quite a fright when I told her to go away and stop wasting my time, but desperate people will tell terrible lies, good luck to all selling at this time of year,Sandra.

Have you already got prespective owners lined up? or will you be advertising?

From a prospective buyers point of view, I expected to be asked lots of questions, and I was, I also asked the Breeder questions, and we spoke several times on the phone before we even saw the pups.
When we went to see the Breeder, and pups, it was only at the end of that meeting that she said she was happy for us to have one of her 'babies'. I was happy to have been thoroughly grilled, but was all too aware that her answer could well have been, No!

pick up at 7 weeks ....i thought pups were not allowed to leave mothertill they are 8 weeks or older preferably 10 weeks
- By Brainless [gb] Date 08.12.03 17:10 UTC
The only rule about pups not going to a home before 8 weeks is set down for commercial breeders that require a liscense (though they can sell them younger than this to a Pet shop!!).

The age when it is appropriate to start homing pups can vary from breed to breed, and even from litter to litter.

This thread covered the subject quite extensively.

My breed club's code of ethics says pups should not be homed before 7 weeks, and in practice most people start to let pups got to new homes somewhere between 7 and 8 weeks.

yeah, and in toys like chihuahuas they dont usually go until 10-12 weeks, but I had mine at 8 as there are always exceptions to the rule :)
