Topic Dog Boards / General / New Identichip with Biotherm

Hi
I've just had my two dogs identichipped with a new type of chip which also registers their temperature when scanned. A way round that terrible indignity of a thermometer stuck up the b*m! Now isn't that a great idea. The only things that ever stress my dogs out at the vets is rear end invasion! Now they'll never have to endure it again. Apparently they've also addressed the problem of the chip 'wandering'. The chip has a small hole in the bottom, so that the surrounding skin attaches to it over time, anchoring it quite safely in one place.

I think this is a fantastic innovation (I'll probably find out now that it's been around for years and you've all got one!?)
Anyway, for anyone who doesn't know, you can ask your vet for it.

Hi Kat

Even after reading both sides of the to chip or not to chip argument, I still have part of me that really baulks at the idea and I can't even decide if my objections to it are rational or not  But I could go for these chips!!! The temperature thing sounds brilliant; mine have developed a vice like b*m clenching action for use visiting the vets so it would be great to be able to avoid that :D Now I just need to convince the other half!!

I'll have to ask our Vet about it when we get Obi's first jabs done, can the standard scanner still be used to identify the dog? Presumably it'll take a while for all Vets to spend their cash on the new one

Apparently the new chips only read the sub skin temperature rather than the core temperature so whilst it may show a slight rise a rectal temperature will still need to be taken!

Oh, that's a disappointment :( Thanks for passing that info on Jesse. It's back to my normal state of confusion over microchipping for me :)

Hi Poodlebabe
I have just checked with my vet, and the temperature reading is considered fully accurate, so perhaps they've improved it? When tested after implanting, my mongrels temperature was exactly that of her registered normal temperature held on record from the last time, and the pup registered a perfect 100.5

you are stating that the chip has a thermomer as well.so the scanner can read both.

the thermomter i use on my dogs is human one that you put in your ear, again i put in the dogs ear and get a good reading from that type of thermometer.

i do mircochiping,i will get on to the company i use to see if they do this type on chip as well.the company i use the chip donot move once in place.

Yes, it's an identichip, with the usual registration, and they just press a different button for a temperature reading!
