Hi,
First of all you have to be certain that it is a good idea to have a litter. Have you had firm enquiries for puppies? Is your bitch good enough to breed from (most dogs aren't, I'm afraid - including some of mine!). She will need to have her eyes tested by a specialist (not your own vet), and perhaps be hipscored too. Not forgetting her age - she shouldn't be too young or too old.
You will need to carefully study her pedigree to and research the individuals listed, to find out their strengths and weaknesses. Compare her against the breed standard, going over it point by point, to find out where she excels, and where her own weaknesses are - so that you can avoid 'doubling up' on bad areas when you choose your stud dog.
Her breeder will, if reputable, be able to give you a lot of help on how to select the correct dog to use on her - it almost certainly won't be nearby, so be prepared to travel a long distance (100 miles or more is quite usual) - and yes, it is the bitch that travels to the dog.
:)
