Please help Ive tried everything, Ive got a 7 month old border collie who is terrible in the car, as soon as he gets in he starts to drool and within half a mile hes been sick. I obviously dont feed him for at least 3 hours before travel and Ive tried, Travella, cocculus, Nux Vom, travelling on newspaper, travelling on a 6" piece of foam, in the footwell of the passenger side and on the back seat but to no avail. He is currently travelling in a cage in the back of the car, on foam with newspaper on top (of the foam). I have been putting him in the car on the drive for 45mins a day without driving him anywhere but he drools a river so its obviously not motion sickness but the car itself, I just dont know what to do next. I hope someone has got some advice!

Ginger capsules from the Chemist helped my Beardie or even ginger biscuits but it must be "proper" ginger not flavouring.

Sorry, no quick fixes. he will grow out of it in time - if you perservere. Have you tried taking him "good" places - like a walk after a drive in the car? I find with mine, they are much better once we get on a straight road with no holdups (like a motorway at 3 in the morning :D)
Seriously, stopping & starting & loads of bends seems to make it worse, so a longer drive on faster roads helps. He may never be deliriously happy in the car, but you can help him overcome car sickness by taking him plenty of places while he's young.
It's not so much motion sickness as anxiety sickness, so familiarity is something which helps.
Keeping him in a cage is good as it will help him feel more secure.
Good Luck.

Sounds more like anxiety and fear than travel sickness. You could try a desensitising programme to get him used to it.

Rescue remedy might help him too.

You could try throwing a sheet over the crate so he can't see out of the window, the moving traffic I believe can make it worse.

Ginger, thick pads of newspaper on the floor, short trip to the nearest fun walking place, (make it as short as possible) long fun walk back into car, back home. Also try feeding in the car on the drive, don't move it, stand by the tail gate talk to the dog and try it with his favourite food, just a little then let him out and back into the house. Try anything else you can think of to make the dog think of the car a start of something nice or fun.

Hi My youngest border collie was like this and the only thing that I found that helped her was Sealegs that I bought at the chemist it had to be Sealegs though none of the others were as effective. She is now almost 2 years old and is alot less bothered but will still drool a little also if we are going on a longer journey, say 2 hours or more I still give her 1 Sealeg.HTH Gillian

I do not have the same breed of dog, but she was car sick from the day I brought her home and was horrible in the car travelling. She is currently 9.5 months old and I have to admit she has not been sick in the car "knock on wood" for a month. I travel alot with her in the car ie to and from shows. I think she is slowly growing out of it (I hope). So hopefully yours too will grow out of it.... sorry I could not be of more help.
