I have a female pug who is 4 weeks along in her pregnancy. A week ago, she started vomiting and I took her to the vet. She tested her discharge and I just found out that she has E Coli and a Staph infection. She is now on antibiotics and seems to be doing well. She has put on weight in the past few days too. I'm really worried that the pups won't make it. Any advice for me?

Hi what bad luck, I've no advice really but thought I would reply to support you. Follow your vets' advice and keep everything crossed. If she does abort or re absorb the puppies it will be a dreadful shame, but presuming the vet can get on top of the infection is is very likely that your bitch will be fine eventually. Its always very sad if pups are lost, but the main thing, , is that the bitch recovers, which she almost certainly will. I am sure you are keeping a very close eye on her, dont hesitate to contact your vet, night or day, if the situation changes or worsens. Keep us posted. Very best wishes.

I'm sorry to hear of your bitches trouble, the pups are very well protected and if you can clear up the infection before the birth I'm sure they will be ok. As WL has said don't wait it you are unhappy with your bitch, straight to the vet. Do hope all goes well. Jackie H

Thank you all for being so kind and thank you marie for the article on fading puppy syndrome. Bella is doing very well. She has put on so much weight in the past few days and is looking very healthy. She is getting x rays taken this weekend to count the pups and the vet will look at how she's doing. I will keep you all posted on her condition. Thanks again for your advice.
