Hi, now I know many of you are against this so please dont jump down my throat. We were just wondering what age is best to have our 8 1/2 month old pup castrated. We know it is best to let him "grow up" as such so he is not in puppy stage forever. He is just a pet, we have no intentions of showing him, and certainly not breeding him (hence why we want him castrated to prevent this becoming an issue). Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

If you go to the search facility on this board & type in castration you'll see plenty of debate on this. Unless you have bitches, why should breeding become an "issue"?

Presumably they mean so that when other bitches are out in the park, for example, they dont want there dog mating with them, I can see what they mean.
Myself, personally, think that castration is often a very good idea, especially if the dog in question is temperamental or.."randy". It is a very routine op, and, yes, people have their own oppinions which is fine, but I find that a lot of problems, both health wise and physical/mental, are overcome by it.

Please wait till your dog is fully grow and be aware of the problems that may occur as a result of your deciding to castrate your dog. If you feel the benefits out way the problems then it is your decision, but it is your dog who will have to cope with what you decide.

I find a lot of problems are overcome by proper training and having proper control over the dog.
