my 3 yo shih tzu bitch has had blood in her urine over the past week. She had pups almost 9 weeks ago with no problems. It just appears to be a small blob of blood at the end with normal coloured urine. She is well in herself and eating and drinking fine. Is this something i should be worried about?

Hi, I think I`d take a sample & get the vet to do a urine test. It could be an infection, a bout of cystitis, it`s not normal to have blood in the urine.

The chances are she is still bleeding from the pups and because you noticed it once you are now looking for it, but to be on the safe side, especially if she had stopped bleeding for a while after having the pups I would take a sample to the vet to be checked.

My answer to your next potential question is I have no idea :D :D

Its bad enough collecting from a large short haired bitch, can't imagine what its like with a small hairy one

oohhhh... not a nice thought. lol.
Good luck with the sample, may need several pairs of docs gloves before hand... and a glass full of vodka.

Tots!! It is urine not vodka we have suggested she take to the vets 0 I would not have a glass of both around in case they get mixed up:D

About this time last year brothers female Scottish Terrier (then 6yrs) was passing blood in her urine and doing lots and lots of squatting. Turned out to be bladder stones and needed operation. She recovered well and is fine now.

Just another thought people!!!!!!!! I've noticed my bitch has been cocking her leg forward and under - not quite like a male dog who cocks their leg out... do you think this could have something to do with an infection OR stones???? I know her aunty and grandma had problems with kidney stones - what do you think???????

Oh and as for collecting a specimen - decided will just take her to the vets as she's 'shy' about going to the loo anyway - unless i just dont let her out in which case she will just pee on my floor and leave a huge puddle and i can get a sample that way LOL...

Hi

normally i can get in on same day - but car is in getting fixed and i dont get it back until friday... all friends and family work and dont finish until surgery closes... I live rural so its not that easy. Have spoken to the vet and he said friday will be fine as she is perfectly normal in every way...

hi

i know what its like reading that people cant be bothered to take their animals to the vets when they need treatment ... but its just one of those weeks at the minute - if i thought she was in pain I'd get a cab and pay the expense but she really is fine and my vet is brilliant so if he's not worried neither am I.

roll on friday!
