Topic Dog Boards / Breeding / wolf hybrid...

Hi everyone.

Can you tell me what this is all about?

I keep seeing adverts in our local free ads paper for wolf hybrids.
Am I being stupid in thinking that advertising wolves or wolf crosses is illegal?

Could really do with some info on this. I don't want to stick my nose in if it's perfectly legal.

I show and breed GSD's and rescue border collies, but this is something I've not come across before.

Any help appreciated,

Thanks

Lisa

Hello

You could have read up on them here http://www.wolfdogsuk.co.uk/ look under the information link, it does say you need a special licence to own one of these, or if people want a pup that does not require a licence they should opt for the Utonagan.
Heres another link http://users.tinyonline.co.uk/wolf.help/wolf_hybrids.htm it does say within the *wolves as pets link* at the bottom of the page, that wolves can be kept legally in the uk, but *again* a licence needs to be obtained to keep them.

OMG that second link to me is totally off (it is in my case any how). Taz being a hybrid (Wolf/Rott) is a beautiful laid back animal all 158 pounds of him. Our friend who has his brother Boss he is a little more timid but also never had the training or the socialization that Taz has had. I would NOT recommend these animals to every one because you do not no what you are going to get. First thing that people must realize is that they are not a dog but a hybrid and I truely believe they should stop crossing them and just help to keep the wolfs safe in the wild. I feed mine dog food and he is doing great and is all ready 10 years old but age has slowed him down plus he lives in doors, if you click on my name you can check his pics out.

Hello

I was not casting an opinion on the breed (yours looks lovely), just gave two links out, in order to clarify that to own a wolf hybrid in the uk you do need a licence, they are not illegal.:)

bulldogowner,
Sorry if I sounded rude in any way. I was just stating that I didn't agree with the second one and not all cases are the same......Just stating an opinion from experience since I own one, I wasn't trying to say anything sorry if it came off that way :) I didn't mean to. The links were interesting to read :)

Corso Girl,
Thank you :)

ttfn :)

Hello

No worries dollface, i was not offended in anyway:)
But i do understand that laws differ from country to country, i am shocked to see Rotties and German Shepards banned in so many countries, its a strange old world isnt it?
