Topic Dog Boards / Showing / Over protective Mum?
- By Dawn-R Date 20.11.03 10:50 UTC
My first litter is fast aproaching six months old, and seeing as there were only two puppies born, I allowed myself the luxury of keeping them both. As the day of the first show gets closer I find I'm more and more aggitated about taking them out to be publically criticised.

Over the years Iv'e had lots of puppies from other breeders, but never had these all consuming worries about what people would think of them.I'm certainly not kennel blind, and I know full well what their faults and virtues are, but they are my babies and I love them in spite of everything. Am I just an overprotective Mum? and does anyone understand my feelings?

I know exactly what your feeling, my baby will be 6 mth on the 4th Dec,(also my first litter) and we have gone in at the deep end and entered LKA, one of the others from the litter is also entered, all we can hope is we do our best and enjoy the day, and know that we take the best dog home at the end of the day as well..

ive only bred 5 litters, a handful of which have been shown--the ones ive let go to show homes are good representatives of the breed-but every dog has things youd change, -part of breeding is knowing it and accepting it, if you know the faults then it shouldnt be upsetting if someone else see's it the same way, :D -if you show a dog your showing it against the breed standard , , so enjoy there virtues, and there wins, if theyre knocked to a better dog then appreciate why, ---its all part of what makes breeding and showing so interesting, ---i know your sporting, -so relax and enjoy YOUR BABIES :D

Karen,
Will you be in MPD or MPB? We're entered in MPD. Leo will still only be 6mths, I'm nervous just thinking about it, as it will be our first really big show.

We will be in MPB, it will be really good to see the other puppy from my litter, like you this will be the puppies first show and it's a biggie. But i do enjoy the showing and like Dizzy said, we do know that all dogs are judged to a breed standard, and most dogs have faults, i just hope that i have got near to the standard set!!!!! Must make sure we meet up.

It must be very exciting knowing you will see one of your puppies again, I know my breeder can't wait to see Leo. I might have been a bit misleading saying it was our first really big show - I meant an all breeds show at a big venue. We did the Northern last week and are doing the Association on the 6th.
I thought there would have been more entries in MPD at the Northern - there were only 2, which while it meant qualifying for Crufts didn't give much indication as to how close to (or far from) the standard they were, however there were 8 in MPB.

It would be nice to meet up, do you show under the affix Luconevar? I'm hoping Leo's fur has grown back fully by the LKA after his horrific allergic reaction to taping his ears - never again!

Hi, yes my affix is Luconevar, but the dogs i will have at LKA are Tartuffe. Due to the breed agreement i had with my girl, that's the way it is. My puppy is Tartuffe Solero of Luconevar, that will help you track us down at LKA.

I understand completely, its a lot different having your own judged by other people. Just do what I do and wonder where judges who dont place them left their white stick :D

Hi Dawn, gosh it doesnt seem possible they are 6 months almost! I think I was probably more anxious about my first babes going into the ring, but over the years it is still hard when a new babe goes out for the first time! When is their first show? Darcey has been entered for a few over the last couple of weeks, but we havent been able to make it to any yet.
bye

Hi Gwen, we are all at Sunderland DCS on Sunday, so I'll be up to my elbows in soap suds for most of Saturday. Will we see you there? Sorry it took so long to see your post, I've been away since Monday, went to London on a Theatre break for my/our 25th Wedding Anniversary, saw Chicago.

Hi Dawn, good luck on Sunday - I am not anywhere till LKA, being on "puppy patrol" - Pugs born last weekend, Cecilia (Am. Cocker to Englebert) due this weekend! Sleep seems like a distant memory:) Using the time proudctively though, getting the Calendars ready for delivery to LKA (at least you got yours first). Am about to be up to my ears in glue, glitter and bits of ribbon putting the final touches to Christmas Cards in aid of Rescue! Everything has run a little late, as Di & Yvonne have to had to be on a printing "go slow" due to problems with Yvonnes pregnancy (hopefully now all resolved).

Beverley will be at show on Sunday, and also, I think, Jim [$ Rita, so lots of Afterglows. Should be a few pups, as I think Freya is going, as well as Dusty. Darcey no made it to a show yet - she is so naughty on the lead! Kisses to the girls (and expecially Kitty]))
bye
