I am very aware of how long my dogs are left on their own, however I was just wondering, surely not everyone who breeds and has kennels is able to stay at home and not work.

What do you guys think is an acceptable time to leave your dogs alone if they are kenneled or do you think it is the same as if they were in the house alone?

The only reason I ask is that we will shortly be moving and the dogs will be out in kennels when we are not home as I feel its better to be in the fresh air and not cooped up, even if it is only a couple of hours. However now I feel its worse for them to be left on their own outside than it is inside?

Are your dogs used to being left alone for short periods of time? If so, then this should not be a problem, but it sounds as if they are used to it. Moving, however, is stressful for a dog, so make sure they are happy where they are. A dog can be taught to be left for long-ish periods of time, but if not, you may need to start now my increasing the amount of time they are alone. A dog of one breed may need constant attention because that is all it knows, adifferent dog from the same breed may be fine left for hours, becaus ethey have been brought up that way.

Are your dogs used to kennels, or are they indoor dogs at the moment? With kennels of the right design (which of course varies according to the breed of dog, its size and its coat) they can be better off outside. If they have an attached run they are at least able to wee and poo when they need to, so in that respect they are better off outside. But if they are likely to make a lot of noise and annoy the neighbours, or even worse, get stolen, then they are safer indoors.
