There are too many Visitors on this board looking for pups and stud dogs and not all of them appear to be genuine. Admin may hold the details of each visitor but I think members of this forum should be also be informed. How do we know that the board is not being used as cheap advertisement for pups that may be going to a dealer. It is putting all small breeders at risk when these amorphous beings are seeking such a variety of breeds.

I absolutely agree with you there. This forum like many others should prevent unscrupulous breeders coming here at all, advertising there stud dogs. Dogomania and DogChat doesn't allow this, its for dog lovers only!

I agree Mayhem! Absolutely. I have noticed the huge amount of "questions" about such things, and it is very hard to know if they are genuine or not.

I posted on this board as a visitor when i was looking for a puppy. I had been looking for months i had phoned numerous breeders without any luck. This was the road i went down because it was giving breeders a chance to contact me. I was very lucky it all worked well. We now have a beautiful puppy & if i had not been allowed the oppertunity to post as a visitor i would still be waiting and maybe even looking for our puppy

But Jean, surely as a genuine enquirer looking for a puppy, if the opportunity to post as a guest hadn't been available, you would have simply registered (as you have done now) :) ......... and posted on the "Searching" Board.

yes i if i had'nt been allowed to post as a visitor at that time i would have registered. I can see what the post is about after reading the latest one from a visitor looking for puppies

I'm pretty sure Admin can't pass on or make public any member/visitor details to other persons, due to the Data Protection Act...and any posts without contact details are removed anyway? I'm sure someone will be along soon with the official line though :)

You also have to remember there are a lot of genuine questions asked on there, maybe the person is a bit intimidated to join by registering immediately.

Some of the questions have an urgency about them, or the person is quite upset over something that is matter of fact to us who have had dogs for sometime.

I for one don't mind sifting through the bad ones for the genuine ones hoping I can help.

I agree with sandrah. If we can help the genuine ones it's worth while. It's not as if we say to people go to xxx breeder. I think many people are put on the right track when queries are answered from guests.

Could I suggest that you go to your OPTIONS page and tick the box next to VISTORS QUESTIONS which says HIDE?

That way you won't have to see the visitors questions.

I can understand all of your points, but if it was just a quick question that people want to ask, then they shouldnt need to sign up. On the other hand, you are right, most posts from visitors do not give enough info. Sorry to have no real opinion!

The Chowchow question is a classic which Steph has answered with gusto. True there are genuine queries but others are highly suspect. If a visitor seeking pups is not prepared to put in contact details then they should be ignored.

Mabe this is a reason why everyone should have to register if they want to post. it takes seconds . and the password is sent really quick to the email address. so its a matter of checking your mail and poping back.this is what most other forums do.. if the poster genuinly has a question they will be happy to register. this just makes it easy for the ones who arent .

The visitors question is used for what it was intended for I think. :-)

Whether an enquiry comes through, here, another website, papers, breed clubs etc they are at the end of the day ONLY an enquiry.

I do not think any breeder would sell a puppy just from an enquiry so I cannot see what the problem is.

Someone from here helped me get one of my dogs, and I know I have actively helped a few people get puppies.

I do occasionally object to taking the time and not getting a thank you or giving a very good breeders number out only to find the people call and try to quibble about the cost etc, which is never more than the fair rate of a quality puppy, BUT at the end of the day that is life and if we help one or 2 people stay away from Not so good breeders, inform them about the dog lover reg scams etc etc then we are doing a bit for dogs being dog lovers. :-)
