Hi everyone,
I'm TracyL's daughter, and I need some help!
I really want another Border Collie, as Sparky has done really well in his training. I don't know the best gap to leave before getting another one - Sparky is 6 months now. I need to start convincing my Dad and we want to get it as soon as possible, Mum also wants another one - she's probably told you! Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks
Sian

Hi Sian, does your Mum know you're here? Sparky needs to be at a good level of obedience training before you get another pup so you can give the pup plenty training and Sparky can show the baby how to be good. I want another dog too, but Morse is still in his Gentle Leader for walks and can be bolshy, so we are waiting till he is 2 or 3 before getting one.

I usually keep my dogs a minimum of two years apart. By that time you will have your first dog under control and trained and you can start thinking about bringing on your next. Another thing that people do not think about when lining up their next puppy, is what happens further down the line? The pain of losing one dog to old age can be devastating, but to lose two dogs close together is awfully hard to bear. Worth thinking about.

Hi Sian,
So this is what you get up to when you are supposed to be doing homework. As Lorelei and the post from Admin says, we have to wait a while before we can have another pup. Must admit I hadn't considered the other end of things, Admin.

Hi Sian

I'm with your Mum, Lorelei and Admin :) Our older dog is two and a quarter years older than our younger one and the youngster was easier to train because he liked to copy the older one, who by that time was beyond his daft puppy and silly adolescent stage! We are going to get another one, but not for a year or so, by which time our youngster will be three and a half!

It's very hard to resist wanting another puppy, but all good things come to those who wait ;)
