Topic Dog Boards / Visitors Questions / I want to home a Dobermann pup!
- By guest [gb] Date 23.11.03 14:07 UTC
I am looking to re home a Dobermann pup (dog). I used to own one and therefore I am familiar with the breed. I have a house, not 2 minutes from large open fields and therefore ideal!
I’ve been looking through a number of rescue places but I am told that most of what they have are older dogs and the chances of finding a pup in these places are slim. I’ve recently had a bad experience with my local RSPCA who had a lovely 4 months old Rottweiler pup which my wife and I wanted to take home, but they denied this pup a home due to their asking price of £300.00 (3 times more then their donation notice suggesting the starting price would be from £100.00). We had anticipated paying up to £150.00… it occurred to me the RSPCA operate more like a business then a charity! Needless to say we walked out empty handed. I would lay money they received this pup for nothing and if the couple who donated him due to their work commitments knew what the RSPCA were asking, they would be quite shocked.

I would struggle to pay the sort of price that most breeders are looking for, for a Dobermann and therefore asking if anyone knows of an available pup (preferably under one years old) needing a loving home. We can only afford up to £150.00 but I have nothing to lose by putting the word out, so that’s what I’m doing. I would welcome any inspection/questions before any prospective pup.

Thank you,

Hi Yves and Liz

Can I copy your post to a Dobermann specific list?

I've had similar requests in my breed and, quite honestly, can't imagine why someone would sell a perfectly good puppy cheaply. If you can afford £150, why don't you wait until you've saved up the full price or settle for an older one?

What a lot of people don't seem to realise is that it costs rescues money to take in and rehome dogs and if they can get more for one than for another then they are entitled to do so. Some dogs come in needing a lot of medical attention, they need feeding, neutering, microchipping and this all costs money.

If someone is not prepared to spend out to get a dog in the first place will they/could they be willing to shell out if something goes wrong with it.
