I thought form your previous posts that you had done extensive research on pedigrees? If you have, these names would MEAN something.

never sadi i had done extensive research just said i had done research but may i ask why you are all so flipping judgemental of new people???????

Hi Clare,
I think a lot of the problem lies in words meaning different things to different people! In other posts you say you are trying to use your dog at stud, so anyone would expect at this stage your knowledge of his pedigree would be more extensive than just knowing the names of his antecedents!
To be honest, I would expect someone who is actively using their animal for breeding to know the colours, health and show/work records of his parents and grandparents at the very least, and ideally all the dogs mentioned. In a breed like labradors, where there are many many thousands bred each year, it is absolutely vital to be 'better than the rest'!
There are very many people (and I'm
not saying that you are one of them) who sadly know nothing about the longterm implications, to both the breed and the individuals involved, of careless breeding without the proper research.
I'm sure you would agree that labradors, with the hereditary problems the breed suffers from, are too special to be put at risk.

the trouble i have is that i wasnt with my O/H when he got ty, and it was a case of a the breeder owed our friend a favour and he owed o/h a favour, and ty had been left in a keenel for six months when someone had put a deposit down but never came back so o/h got him cheap
and i do all the colours on his dads side and remember we all start somewher, and to tell you the truth in the normal shooting world, pedigree and there history isnt at the top of list for shooters, there just want to breed to good working dogs together that are heathy and got good temperments, most of them have said i am mad for researching into his past.
and i cant go back to the breeder as he isnt a very nice man and was rude anougher when i rang up to ask him a few questions
so as you see i am fighting and up hill battle as it is without people trying to jusge me, without firstly finding a bit more about me, my dog or what my motives are, are only came on here for advice not to be judged because *some people* dont bother finding out information I AM NOT ONE OF THESES PEOPLE
so maybe in future, you will ask before tying everyone with the same brush
all i was asking for some advice, and all i got was hassel and i am now starting to think why i am bothering as know one eled is trying to help me!

TY
Please calm down :)
I for one am not getting at you :)
It is just we all have the best intentions when it comes to dogs and maybe ( no offense meant now) that your written word in another language to your own is seen as maybe a bit different.
We all have a common reason being here and that is for the love of dogs and the welfare of dogs so please continue posting but be aware that the written word can so often be taken badly.

If you want to talk then go into my profile and go onto the site and then the messages and mail or PM me and we can talk further.

Okay Clare - I'm one of those who WAS sharp with you - I'm sorry - you came across as someone who wanted quick answers and shortcuts to what should take a long time researching etc :(
However, you're coming back - and asking again - so let's start again.
First of all, join the Labrador Breed Club (you should get a telephone no from the Kennel Club). Even if your boy's breeder won't help you, then members of the Breed Club should. Go back through the records - you've already found an excellent website - and you will find a lot of your names there, and from that you should, be able to answer the questions that only you know that you are asking - are you looking for colours? For Field work or Showing? This will show you what youhave there! I can tell you that I'm not unhappy in seeing them behind my dogs!!! At the same time, you can work out from these pedigrees if there have been any health problems - so that you would be aware of any lines that you should not allow him to be put to. You've already said that he has a good hip score - that's excellent.
Type in "STUD" in search (top right hand corner of this page) - you will see all the points that come up when someone suggests using their dog for stud - and you may be able to understand better where we are coming from - we're not against newcomers - after all, we were all newcomers once upon a time- but especially with labradors being such popular dogs, it is all the more important to make sure that what you are doing with your dog is in the long-term interests of the breed.
Good luck with your research!
Regards
Margot

The addy for the Labrador Retriever Club is
http://www.thelabradorretrieverclub.co.ukThere are some beautiful dogs in your pedigree! The FT CH's only show part of the story!
Yes, working people are more interested in working dogs than pedigrees but when you intend to get involved with the breeding then you are moving out of the "Working" side and into the "Breeder" side and that is where the info carried within the pedigree is so important.
Google is the first place to look for history. At a guess I figure possibly half of these dogs hip scores could be found on the net, also possibly half or even more of the colours. The KC should be able to fill in some blanks
Pocklea, Aughacasla, Seanbaile, Drakeshead and Haretor are all household names and the info is all out there.
Obviously your dog should be hip scored and average or better, (particularly important to a working dog). Eye should be tested annually, (Hereditary cataracts can strike at any age up to 8 years old or more so a clear result two years ago is useless! It must be up to date.) Just as you can expect the owner of a bitch to want to see your health test results so should you insist on seeing theirs. The reputation of your dog hangs on the puppies sired just as the reputation of their bitch hangs on your dog!!
Success in Gundog Working Tests and or Field Trials will increase the desirability of your dog.

There are some beautiful dogs in your pedigree! THANKYOU HE'S NOT BAD HIMSELF LOL
The FT CH's only show part of the story! YES AND TRYING TO GET THE REST OF THE STORY IS TURNING OUT TO BE A NIGHTMARE
Yes, working people are more interested in working dogs than pedigrees but when you intend to get involved with the breeding then you are moving out of the "Working" side and into the "Breeder" side and that is where the info carried within the pedigree is so important.
YES I UNDERSTAND THAT ARE MAKING THE TRANSITION, BUT I AM NOT TRYING TO BECOME A BREEDER FIRSTLY I DONT KNOW ANOUGH TO BECOME A BREEDER I ADMIT THAT,
Google is the first place to look for history. At a guess I figure possibly half of these dogs hip scores could be found on the net I'M NOT HAVING MUCH LUCK :( ON GOOGLE BUT I AM STILL TRYING

The reputation of your dog hangs on the puppies sired just as the reputation of their bitch hangs on your dog!! DONE!!!!! I CHECKED HERS WHEN THE OWNER STARTED ASKING ABOUT USING TYTO AS I DIDNT WANT TO BRING ANY OF THE HERADITOR DIESES INTO THE PUPPIES
Success in Gundog Working Tests and or Field Trials will increase the desirability of your dog. SADLY THE O/H DOSNT WANT TO STRAT DOING THINGS LIKE THAT WITH HIM, BUT I HAVE HIM IN TRAINING TO DO A FEW SMALL ONES NEXT YEAR, TO HELP KEEP HIM FIT DURNING THE SUMMER MNTHS
thanks John there were really helpful comments
Okay Clare - I'm one of those who WAS sharp with you - I'm sorry - you came across as someone who wanted quick answers and shortcuts to what should take a long time researching etc APOLIGY ACCEPTED WE ALL CAN GET SHARP WHEN WE THINK PEOPLE ARE ONLY WANT QUICK ANSWERS I AM NOT ONE OF THEM I PROMISE
First of all, join the Labrador Breed Club (you should get a telephone no from the Kennel Club). Even if your boy's breeder won't help you, then members of the Breed Club should I WAS ALREADY THINKING ABOUT JOINING, AND HAVE BEEN IN EMAIL CONTACT WITH THEM, BUT THERE TOLD ME IT WAS BETWEEN ME AND THE BREEDER, WHEN I ASKED IF THERE HAD HEARD OF SOME OF THE DOGS, DO YOU THINK IT IS BECAUSE I AM NOT A MEMEBER????????????
