Hi evryone
just wondered with so many people on here owning a several different breeds ,why? If you own a breed that you love and that suits your life style why change? Is it more fun owning a single breed or different ones?

Hi Archer. I can`t imagine having anything other than Labradors :) but I do have a 9yr old mongrel who I found & gave a home to when she was a pup & also a 4/5yr old GSD who I fell in love with when I was looking after him for the rescue people here & decided to give him a home as well, although they both have Lab hearts & souls :D but I`ve no intention of taking any other breeds, I love Labs :)

Funny you should ask this now because we've always wanted a whippet and have finally got one but we've always had the intention of having two dogs and it was always going to be another whippet, but friends of ours have recently got a Jack Russell and their inseperable so now we're considering one of the terriers not sure which one any suggestions??
Only thing worrying us is that we like the fact that our whippet after a good walk will just sleep and sleep and I dont know if we could cope with the energy of a terrier we've never actually seen their pup sleep are they constantly awake?

Cheers
Steve

I've got 2 bedlington terriers.
They have a brilliant temprament and they are just as happy lying around as they are out and about.
They both love to cuddle up and sleep with each other or with any of us.
Couldn't imagine having any other breed of dog.
If you want to see my girls have a click on my name and look at my homepage.

Kind regards,
Linda

Hi Steve
I'm got a baby Basset (5 months) and a Jack Russel (16 months) and they are the best of friends. They play together like crazy, then sleep together.
Rocky, (JRT) can have a lot of energy, but I think they tend to fall in with the family routine. He's quite happy to lie about sleeping, or to dance and prance about with his favourite toy. He's such an easy dog to own.
He loves his walks, loves trips in the car (especially when he goes with my partner to the corner shop and gets his bag of crisps :D ) and he is such a loving family dog, and very obedient.
He sleeps with my youngest at bedtime, and they look sooo sweet together. My son says to him at bedtime...."come on Rocky, bed" and he stops whatever he is doing and follows my son up to bed. :)
He's a bugger with strange dogs tho'......that is my only complaint. He's perfect in every other way :) :) :)

At the moment we have a boxer, but we have had different types of dogs all the way including a beardie, 2 foster greyhounds, a greyhound x collie and a corgi x GSD. We dont pick our pets on breed (although I'd like to have more boxers in the future), we go on who needs us most at that time (they were all rescues). It keeps life interesting! *lol*

Steve
not all terriers are constantly awake and full of energy .
Staffys for example love a good runabout but they also love their home comforts and most of the time Gus can be found flat out on the sofa ;)
Lazy so and so

i have a JRT X and she's full of energy when she's out, and if i am working around the house she plays in the garden and in the house with her toys.
but she loves her bed/sleep and when i am out or not in sight she just sleeps or lies in her bed chewing [i know because i can peek into the kitchen but she can't see me!]. she just seems to be active when it's expected of her, and quiet when it's expected. don't know if that helps but all dogs are different.

Well i dont have a particular favourite breed, i have a favourite type, the bull breeds thats why i have frenchies, staff's and bulldogs.

Lel, my Rocky is like that......loves to go out in the car, walks...but if we're lazing in the house, Rox can often be found asleep. He's also excellent at amusing himself if he's feeling in a playful mood when noone else is :D
My sis now has my brothers Staffy, and I know he's just the same. He can bounce about with soo much energy, normally when they have a visitor...but after he has greeted you, he just lays back down to sleep. I would never have believed it of a Staffy  :)

I love a group of dogs - gundogs. I've got dogs that do a job as well as being pets so they need to be specific breeds. We want a beating dog as well as a dog that will work on the moors.

Ive had all sorts of dogs but ive stuck to cockers past 5 dogs. i think once you find a breed you love its hard to think of a reason not to get another.
For me cockers are fun loving always seem to be so cute and scatty which makes them even cutier
I love the way they always have a bouncy edge to them and are willing to do things for you. just to keep you happy:)there very hardy little dogs too.not to mention how beauitful they are.

I couldn't agree more about cockers (I waited over 20 years to get my 1st pup). The other thing about owning cockers is that you need a very good sense of humour.

I enjoy different temperaments. Breeds I've owned are Boston Terrier, GSD, Yorkshire Terrier, Cairn and a mixed breed. I am now on my second Cairn. I am also planning on adding another dog in the next six months or so and will most likely choose another breed.

Yesterday I went to Discover Dogs to try and narrow down my choices - hopeless. I like so many breeds of dogs every time I go to a show it only makes my problem worse. :-)

However, I am at the age and lifestyle where I will not own some of the breeds I crave because I cannot give them the exercise they require, or, I do not want to spend the time grooming that's required. But this still leaves too many choices!

Hi Archer.

I think the reason many people change there breeds is basically to see if that breed fits into there lifestyle, or maybe after losing a pet they don't want the same type again so they choose a different one, but personally my chosen breed as to be the Bullmastiff because of there gentleness and loyalty but I would also love a Boxer.
Many people don't really have a choice (if say for instance), they find a stray and fall in love with it straight away, hoping it is never claimed.
I had that happen to me with a Westie (who I still have) when I was a child after we just lost our beloved Border Terrier in a road accident.
Luckily the owners didn't come forward, but not suprising the state the poor dog was in at 6 months old.

As long has those dogs are happy and not being bred, I can't see the reason why dog lovers can't have more than one breed.
Thats just my opinion.

i think people choose different breeds because they are not rule-makers, and could well like more than one breed. You dont just like one music genre, so why sould they just like one breed if dog? i feel, if you love dogs, then you will love almost any breed, not just the one you have a dog from.

Peoples circumstances may have also changed... resulting in them being able to get the breed they really wanted when it didnt suit thier lifestyle.
- By luvly [gb] Date 23.11.03 21:55 UTC
I agree with when loosing a dog then you might not like to get another the same, it would seem like your trying to replace what you lost. thats why i have always gone for different colour cockers. golden to a deep red one to a black ,choc now im on blue:D so i see what you mean.
I love all dogs and if i couldent pick then course id love it anyway but i think people just go threw a few dogs then stop when they find a breed that suits them and you find things you love about that particular breed.

Hi Archer.......I have a jack Russel and a Basset.
I wanted a Basset last year but was talked about of it by someone telling me they are not a good family dog, as they are too boring and sleep all the time (nothing could be further from the truth), so I got a Jack Russel as I had one as a kid and he was a brilliant family dog.
My yearning for a Basset never went away, so when I got broody earlier this year, I searched out a Basset and now feel completely fulfilled. If my broodiness returns, I think I'll have another Basset tho'.....they are just soo much fun, sooo comical, and sooo unbelievably loving.
They are both fab dogs (I would say that tho' wouldn't I :D )

Hi, Have had various breeds over the years, but totally fell for Am. Cockers about 15 years ago. However, almost 3 years ago Shirley Pug came to stay with me through her pregnancy, for me to whelp. Puglet was the resulting "litter" after 6 months intensive care to rear her I was hooked not just on Puglet but on pugs as a whole! And they go so well with Am Cockers, lovely low maintenance coats, but so full of self immportance that they are never overcome by the yankees over exuberance.

Hi Archer, I have a golden retriever and a great dane :D
I don't have a particular breed that I think of more than others, I just love dogs :) so I think really I would be happy with almost any breed of dog, with the exception of very small dogs. No offence to anyone who has these breeds, I'm sure that they're all adorable, just not for me.
My hubbie hates to think of how many dog's I'd collect if I had 1) The Land and 2) The Money :D :D
