How old should a dog be before it is left outside in a dog run all day. I have another dog who is now 2 and she only started staying outside all day. before we were living in an apartment and i would ahve someone walk her during the day but now we have ahouse so we have the dog run. I have an 8 week old pup, I know it will be a while before she can go out. Right now i take her to work with me.

Personally i don't think any dog should be left alone ALL day, inside or out regardless of how old they are.

I agree with Fiona. What's the point of having them if you are just going to leave them outside, all day.
I presume from your post as you say they will be left "all day", that you are working full time so they will be left alone all day too. Just because you are in a house now is no different to when you were in your apartment. It's not just outside/toilet time and exercise the dogs need but human companionship. It's too late now, but you really should have thought it through a bit more before getting another puppy. But as this horse is way down the road, and you already have another young puppy, I think you need to continue with having someone come in to see to the dogs while you are out.
What is the breed of the dogs, are they the same or different?
Sorry if this seems judgmental, but from your query, there is not much to be supportive and positive on.

Please tell us how many days per week and how long each day your
dog will be left in the outdoor run?
Yuo may not have made yourself clear but your post reads like its
allday everyday. Is this the case.

I leave the house at 11:00 am 4 days a week someone comes at 1:30 and walks the older one for half an hour and takes the pup out for that time either walking her or carrying her I tell my dog walker not to let her walk to much as she is to young yet and then my husband is home by 3:30. I really shouldn't have said all day

Thanks I am learning not to jump on people if I feel they have not
explained the situation fully.
For a period of 4-5 hours with someone to see in the middle
I think is exceptable. I really would not think of leaving pup out until
you are 100% sure both dogs interact well. And this can take sometime.
Your other dog my become agressive towards a biteing scratching playful
pup in her space.
I think around 4 months. But I stress this is my opinion.

I'm glad that you clarified the length of time your dog and puppy are left. I stand by my comment about not leaving animals all day, but thankfully that doesn't apply to you.
In your first post you said the puppy is 8wks old, yet here you're saying that your dog walker "takes the pup out for that time either walking her or carrying her I tell my dog walker not to let her walk to much as she is to young yet .
At 8wks old your puppy is FAR TOO YOUNG to be walked any sort of distance and should not be down on the ground until 1 wk after her final vaccinnations. The puppy risks catching all kinds of horrible diseases as she won't be fully protected.

If I've got it wrong again :D and this isn't the case I apologise unreservedly. 3 kids, 1 puppy (coming home on Saturday) and a husband with flu have sent me mad!!!! :D :D :D :D

I stress the fact that she carries her and she is only allowed to let her down in my yard to try and do her business and thats it. For a small pup she is learning quickly

I took her to work with me the first 2 days. she would just lay there and sleep most of the time now she is a little bit more active and i don't want her to get in the way of customers (I own a Hair salon). Some of them don't react to well to her being here. They obviously are not dog lovers. now i leave her at home.
From now on I better make sure i explain my self much better than I have been.........LOL How do u put a smiley face at the end

Okay, from your other posts I see the puppy is a white boxer with the name? "undecided" What breed is Molly?
I think two dogs are better than one-------My oppinion of course.
Also think two dogs keep each other good company during hours that they aren't able to be with their people. Of course it is important to make sure the two dogs get along well with one another before leaving them alone together.

Molly is a mix we are not sure what she is when we got her they said she was a pointer mix but i don't see any pointer in her at all. Her face is all shepard and the rest of her seems to collie. I went to the pet store to get fish and came home with her. I wasn't even allowed to have pets where i lived so i moved.
At the moment they get along very well molly is very good with her althought sometimes she is not aware of her size (she is about 50 ponds) compared to the pups.
