sorry this is going to be long
i have a Kc Reg Black lab, and a friend want to put his bitch t him, now i have told him that he needs to bring the bitch to us, but while i have been t work b/f has taken our dog to the bitch and he hasnt shown any intrest now i feel this is because he is to busy marking to make it his, does anyone else think this could be the reason, the friend, keeps going on that if it was any other dog it would be straight on her back, it may be so but this is ty's first mating!! when we looked after my mums bitch and dog, he tried to mate with both!!!!!!
anyone got any usefull comments, or am i right that the bitch needs to come to us

I assume both dog and bitch have had all the necessary health tests? Also that you have researched both pedigrees to ensure they are a good match? Also, how did your friend manage to take your dog while you were at work? This whole breeding sounds to me like your friend wants to make some money by breeding a litter.
Edited to say: It was only about 6 weeks ago that you found your dogs lines - how have you done enough research of those lines by now to be thinking of using him?

sorry really should have explained myself better<img src=http://www.stopstart.freeserve.co.uk/smilie/2.gif>
right both dog and bitch have had all tests, there both working dogs and i have researched into both pedigrees, and there not closely related mine is from drakeshead, and middlegate lines, hers are, bu**er soryy cant remember hers, i do have it somewhere, but not close to hand will put it up when i remmeber
as i said in my post my b/f took dog down, he's a usless man, that wont listen!
as for him trying to make money i dont know, he has said he just wants a litter before she gets to old she is only 3

It is standard practice for the bitch to visit the dog, not the other way around. The dog needs the confidence of his own territory. I'm assuming they are both maidens? That can cause big problems, when neither of them know exactly what they're doing! Are you, your boyfriend, and the bitch's owner experienced in handling matings?
Somebody needs to know the procedure!

hi ..........lots of reasons why this could be happening, bitch may not be excatly ready to recieve the dog.... lots of ways to tell but most obvious is.....she will be turning her behind to him and raising up her tail. typically day 10-12 although mine recieved the stud on day 9. if the stud is a first timer he will be all exitement and no action! a favorite of my friends stud was mounting bitchs head! basically the stud is inexperienced, the first time stud should allways be put to an experiened bitch so as to help him along with the wheres and whats! if thats already the case then yes familiar surroundings and no distractions lots of time and lots of bikki breaks......encouragment when he gets it nearly right! and if that fails then old fashioned roll up yur sleeves and hands on helping him! emma

You were given the website six weeks ago and that is not enough time to research your boys pedigree. It sounds to me that you have assumed that as long as the breeding is an outcross then it must be okay. There is a lot more to it than that. Is this man who just wants a litter of puppies the ideal person to raise your dogs offspring?

i'm sorry but where are you getting at me, i havnt just been resaerching it for six weeks, i have been researching into his pedigree before that through his breeder and the Kennel club!
i am not wanting to rush into anything, all i want is the best for my dog, his dog and the puppies
and at least i am asking questions, and not going in blind, i have talked to my vet a well known labrador breeder in my area, and the breed club, i have read bogs, scoured the internet

the firend has left the bitch with us, he keps going on about how he should be straight up there, i seriosly dont think she is ready, she is lifting her tail, and squirtin,, and he is licking and showing intrest just not mounting.
my friend emma is coming down she breeds staffys she's going to have a look, as i have alwasys had bitches in the past
keep everything crossed for me and her, lets hope he does the deed before sunday, or he is going to take her to anougher dog, and to tell you the truth although i would like a pup, i really dont like his attuide, as he is trying to say my dog is useless and crap. when more than likely, the bitch is just not in ful season yet

I wouldn't get involved in breeding with someone I didn't trust. Walk away now.

i am sorry if i have put the wrong imperssion across as someone who just wants money but i am not, all i wanted was some more advice, as it dosnt matter how experienced you are you can still ask for advice, please dont judge me, as some of you seem to have done.
just seen your new post, good luck, hope it goes ok, welcome to the world of 'stud work' I would walk away too but he will not be the last idiot you meet. :) Your probably right, lots of people bring them too early, done it myself though ;)
Tyto Alba have any of you done a mating before?? Do you know the importance of not putting maidens together? You will maybe just do it anyway despite advise and you may be lucky and nothing dreadful will happen but one thought, do you know that a dog has a bone in his penis? now imagine what may happen if the maiden dog and bitch panic, especially if all humans panic too. :( I have seen maiden bitches do somersaults and boy can they scream and bite. I almost lost my ear once :( If you are experienced I am sorry but if you are not please be very careful. If your boy is nice and you are set on using him it would be very sensible to put him to an experienced girl as advised by everyone, if something goes wrong the first time it can put him off forever.

It took a while for my dog to get the hang of what was required. Not only that, it took me a while to get the hang of it too!! The first bitch who visited him (yes, they were both maidens) flirted for all it was worth, she stayed with him for a week and we didn't ever witness a mating although 64 days later she produced 9 pups! He knows what to do now, and I have the confidence to be a bit bolder with handling them. Also, the guy who was the owner of the first bitch was quite insistent there was a problem with my dog and of course not his bitch, he had to eat his words when the pups arrived!
It gets easier with practice!!
