My bitch last came into season on 6th September, over the past few days my dog has been doing that teeth chattering drooling action that he does when a bitch is in season. This evening he tried to mount her.
She isn't bleeding, or even damp and everything seems fairly well tucked away (if you know what I mean!) and she isn't behaving flirtatiously although is incredibly affectionate over and above her normal behaviour.
Any suggestions as to what is going on? She can't possibly be coming into season again, and even if she was, he doesnt' start this sort of behaviour until about the 12th day.

Girls can be attractive to stud dogs when they have an infection going on (vaginal, urinary....) or ovarian cysts. I hope that's really not the case, but I'm sure your vet could check her and see if everything's going all right.. Any other ideas from the experts in the forum? :D

Ya know, I thought about this overnight and I remembered something. My mother had a dog once who ALWAYS chattered and drooled over my Golden. didn't matter if she was in heat or not, he was ALWASY excited around her. And it wasn't because he didn't see her often...at one point we lived together for a few months, and the poor dog was always in a tizzy over Daisy. He was a former stud dog, so he had a good amount of breeding experience, I wonder if that had anything to do with it?

Well she is a devastatingly attractive little bitch!! He does have breeding experience but has been fine with her up until the past few days. He was OK yesterday then started again this morning. She does have a vaccination trip to the v.e.t. coming up soon so I will get him to check her over.
Thanks for your suggestions.
She is at the classic time for pyometra to be starting, about 2-3 months after season. The only time my dogs have reacted as yours is doing is when there has been some sort of infection going on.
I for one wouldn't be waiting until her next booked visit for a vaccination.
I would be taking her pdq, so what if you are wrong, but better safe than sorry.
