We would like to breed from our HPR bitch. She is in season at the moment, we live on the Isle of Lewis.
Anyone with a good dog for her in NW Scotland or the Western Isles?
Have been told that there is a Gundog Club on the Isle of Skye but can't find phone or address.

Hi,
The likelihood of finding a well HPR bred stud in such a remote area will probably like finding a needle in a haystack. There are a couple of breeders on the West side of Scotland who may have stud dogs.
BUT
is your bitch hip scored or eye tested, do you have a vet who will dock the puppies' tails especially if some find their way to working homes, are you prepared for at least 12 weeks of spiralling costs, KC reg.'s, extra good food for the dam, vets fees for her to be checked post whelping, weaning food & puppy food costs (My first litter chomped their way through a min. of 15kg of food a week), the costs of having to feed pups that aren't sold at 8 weeks, money should anything go wrong....
To be truthful, trying to find a stud dog when your bitch is already in season is basically not well thought through. No stud dog owner wants someone phoning out of the blue needing their bitch mated the next day. How old is she? This breed - if like my own breed - are better being 3-3.5, at least, until they have their first litter.
Sometimes buying a puppy in is a far easier option........

The likely hood of finding the HPR stud you are looking for depends on the breed i guess but just because hes male doesnt make him suitable,my I suggest you speak to some breeders of your breed and take advice.
Hopefully you will; find a nice, compatable, tested stud for next time around you will need to be prepared to travel though.:)
