My baby Basset who's now 4 1/2 months is still having very mushy/runny poos.
Over the time, I have swapped his feed and he continued to have mushy poos.
Anyway, another recommendation was James Wellbeloved, so tried it and sometimes his poos have been nice and solid, but when they aren't solid, they are runny, NOT mushy anymore.
Now, when I was at the Vets last night, getting the dogs their wormers, I got talking to a lady with a boxer pup, who also has loose poos. But apparently her pup has some sort of errmmmm, can't quite remember what it was, but something like a worm, or virus, eating away at his stomach wall, that needed a strong shot of antibiotics to clear it up.......and she said he's on a special diet now for it, James Wellbeloved.
I'm wondering if my Henry could have something like that. All this time he's had loose poos and I thought it was that the food didn't agree with him, but I've tried a few various varieties (all the well known expensive one's too) without any joy.
I've got Rocky at the Vets on Monday, so will see about Henry then.......but what do you think?????
Thanks in advance for any advise. :)

Steph, just a thought, I have a GSD who had similar symptoms and it turned out to be an Exocrine pancreatic insufficiency. EPI is common in GSD but it does affect other breeds. The condition is easily treatable with enzyme replacement therapy and a controlled diet.
If it does turn out to be EPI there is a forum on yahoo called EPIGLOBAL which is full of advice although most of it is US based.
best wishes

Hi Mark
thanks for that.
Could you tell me a bit about what EPI is as I've never heard of it before?? Does it give off any symptoms or signs, in particular?
Thanks

Steph
Apart from the JWB what else is the pup having treat wise ? Maybe the treats are what is causing the few loose poos !

Hi Lucy,
well treat wise, all he has is munchy sticks, gravy bones or biskrok.......but not every day. He doesn't get human food at all....I am a bit strick with his diet and treats as Bassets can be greedy little piglets, so I'm a bit wary of him getting overweight. With him only being a pup, he can't have good, long walks yet.
No, I really don't think it's the treats causing the 'runny' poos, he doesn't have them often enough.

Stpeh I think the answer is there !!
All types of treat like chewies and biscuits are not part of what the JWB diet is about ! Hypo allergenic and gluten free !!
Min my Oldie who has collitis is on Nature diet and for treats as all our girls are all natural, carrots, apples.bananas. We fill kongs with the above and they love them ! If we do which is every so often maybe once a week give hyde bones for them then we will have a pile of sloppy poo from Min !!

Ahhh, right, I see.
My sis (the one who used to be a vet's assistant) mentioned something today about Colitis, but could I hell remember the word until I heard you say it. And she advised me to removed his doggy treats to see what happened. BUt I just wanted a second opinion, I guess.....see what the Champ doggers had to advise.
I actually thought if I gave him fruit, veg, it would make him runny........cos we know what happens to us humans if we eat too much fruit.
SO I'll try it that way then.....remove his treats, and give him 'natural' things instead and see how he goes.
Thanks a lot Lucy, you've been agreat help :)
Come to think of it, I did buy him a hyde stick about 3 weeks ago, to help with his teething, and then bought him another one the other day.....and I think it's been round about this time that his poos have gone from soft, to runny. So, hopefully, once I get rid of these and treats, his poos should firm up all the time.
Ahh Lucy, thanks tons :)

Thats OK ! :)
JWB also do doggie treats that are gluten free as well if I remember but I don't normally buy them as all the fruit and veg is all my lot need :) ( They would probably disagree but they are Labradors ! :D )
Also try and put the JWB in a play ball or a kong as that will be a good way to give him treats but remember to adjust his food when you feed him ! :)

Filled his empty bone thing with banana this morning, and you should have heard the little pig whimper when he couldn't get the middle bit out :D .....a bit of perseverence and he got it :)
