Hi All, hope some of you can offer some advice. Shakey (irish stafford) has always had a bit of a sensitive tummy. We rescued her 4 months ago. Since then she can be fine for a while then really soft stools. However last week she got diarrhoea so bad she couldn't make it outside in time!!! It only lasted a day so I thought it was just a 24 hour thing. Now same thing today again tried to get out but didn't make it. It smells like a SEWER!!! She has had a false pregnancy and the week before last vet gave her medicine to dry up her milk.

PS Any tips on stain removal (I HAVE A CREAM CARPET)

What was the medecine that the vet gave her for her milk? And is she still taking it? Some of these work by causing diarrhoea and therefore dehydration .... dehydration = no milk.

Thanks for quick reply. Feel a bit silly can't remember full name. Think it started with LAC

PS no she is not taking it now, not for over a week now.

Just a thought Shakey has been Ok on her winalot and mixer biscuits but just recently they brought out a new 12 pack of cans which I have bought for the last two weeks. The only one different is Beef in meaty loaf. This is not normally in the 6 pack. I checked and was this one that she had last night and this morning so I am wondering if it's something in this one that is affecting her.

Have you tried TREE BARKS POWDER for diarrhoea and colitis from Dorwest Herbs it works very well!!!
I have used it sucessfully with dog which suffer from constantly unsettled tummys and loose motions,
though this might help

Live yoghurt is also excellent for repopulating the gut with friendly bacteria; mine get it every day.

My dog was having diarhorrea, and it turned out to be us feeding him too much! So Simple!!... As for carpet stains, try OXICLEAN from LAKELAND LTD. It is fantastic for removing all organic stains and you can out it in your washing machine with whites to make them gleam!

Thanks all Shakey is back to normal today. Still think it was the beef winalot. Maybe has a lot of cereal in. Will try the OXICLEAN as I have still have a grey stain.

Hi

My 14mth old ISBT suffers from a sensitive tummy, he also had colitis. I took him to the vets and he was given some medication but his tummy has never really seemed to be right. I feed him on Hills Science Plan. Is this food as good as people make out??? Anyway what I wanted to know is where can I get this powder from?

Hi :)
Skipper mentioned Dorwest Herbs but I use pure Slippery Elm Powder from the health food shop. (Tree Barks powder is Slippery Elm plus White Poplar Bark).

Just be careful if you buy slippery elm from health food shops as very often it is adulterated with other powders particularly wheat - which is not that good if the dog already has a sensitive tummy (just in case of wheat allergy)

Yep, good point. :) I know my stuff is the pure powder but some isn't, especially the boxed stuff called Slippery Elm Food. Always ask to make sure it's the pure powder. :)

Kath.
