Topic Dog Boards / General / How do you change sleeping arrangements?

As you may all be aware i am now pregnant. My problem is this at the moment my Rosie sleeps on the bed. I feel that with a baby this may not be as hygenic (well the other half does) So i would like to get her sleeping in a bed of her own say in the kitchen. I would like to start this now rather than when the baby comes just shutting her out as i feel that would prob cause resentment. But i just dont know how to go about it. My girl is my baby at the moment and is spoilt rotten i only have to say the word bed and she is there ready to snuggle up.i have plenty of time to change but just dont know where to start. I hate the thought that she will think she is being punished for something

Any Ideas??

What if you put her bed in your room and make her sleep there then gradually move it to the landing, then bottom of the stairs and so on?

My dogs slept in our room until I was about about six month pregnant, Honey was about 1 year and Dylan about 6 months. We had a stair gate anyway as we didn't want them hurtling up and down stairs when we couldn't supervise, one night we didn't carry their beds up and they just stayed in the lounge, no problems at all though we didn't sleep that well listening for them! :)
Honey knows now that she is allowed in my room when my other half is on nights and doesn't bother any other time, Dylan really can't be bothered to climb the stairs at all now!

Good Luck, and congratulations!

I live in a mobile home so, stairgates are not possible i just feel really nasty as i tried this once before and she pined outside my bedroom door and i felt so guilty i let her in after about 5 mins. And she looked at me with such sorry eyes im sure she was wondering what she had done wrong!!!

What if you let her just sleep on the floor at the bottom of the bed? at least she is still close and in the same room, but not close enough to bother you when feeding the baby.
Possibly she may get sick of being woken up during the night and prefer the couch anyway (I know my husband did) :D
