We have a 12 week old
beagle puppy. This is our second beagle and we find them to be lovely and affectionate pets. Remy, is a lovely natured dog
who is a normal puppy through the day, however at night, she howls and wines and generally gets very wound up. She has not
slept through the night since we had her at 8 weeks, to begin with we went to her in the night and now she gets so wound up at night and
flings herself at the door. We have tried ignoring her, but she howls for hours. We have also tried putting a ticking clock near by, a hot water bottle in
her bed and purchased a special plug from the vets. Nothing seems to work!

I am extremely stressed and in need of a good nights sleep

Where is she in the house?
I know not too many do this but could you not put her in your room or at least on the landing?
Ours howled like mad and being a great dane with a great voice to match, it was very unpractical for us to leave her crying (Terraced house too). So i put her bed in our room, few attempts to stop her jumping on our bed but she was fine after and even slept longer than she would downstairs.
(Also as she saw our bedroom as hers she never soiled)

my dog is the same she wont sleep but shes only 7weeks going on 8
you should try and ignore remy and put something that will stop her hurting herself when flinging herself at the wall she should soon get into routine.

I always had the crate up in my room, that way I could hear if they needed to go to the loo in the middle of the night and I'd take them out. Worked well for me.

lccook,
I know exactly how your feeling. Our first beagle bitch cried every night for 7 whole weeks. We resisted going down stairs to comfort her as we knew it would only make her worse. She had a heater next to the cage, a ticking clock, plenty of cuddly toys and even a blanket that came from her mums bed.
Nothing worked and after 7 weeks we decided enough was enough. We took her upstairs to the bedroom and she slept on the floor in her bed. From the first night she slept right through and didn't expect to get on the bed. I know it is probably giving in but we don't mind, she is in the corner of the room with our other beagle now and to be honest we don't notice them apart from occasional snoring noises.
We have excellent neighbours but they were starting to get sick of the noise after 7 weeks. I would do what you feel is right. You know your dog and if you think she has improved slightly i would leave her but if you think there is no end to it i would try her in the bedroom on the floor.
Hope you get some sleep soon !!!

Hi

Yes I know how you feel as well, with an eight week old beagle who is very sociable and who cries at night in his cage whether downstairs or in our room. And an intolorent neigbour (see intolorent neighbour post) who hates any noise esp puppies crying it is not an ideal situation. In despaire in the end I put his beagle blankie on the bed and he curled up on it and slept nearly all the way through.

He is no trouble and when we have to pop out anywhere he sleeps in his little travel crate no fuss.

Good luck

Oh yeah, I can so sympathise with you!.
When our 6 week GSD pup came home we had the same prob. In the end, hubby & I took turns in sleeping on the sofa downstairs. She on her bed on the floor. After 21/2 weeks (yes 21/2 weeks!) I still slept on sofa, but with her outside the door, with her bed in the hall. All fine. Did that for a couple of nights and went back to bed. She was fine after that.

Mind you, at 11 months she wants us up no later than 7.30am thank you very much, and will whinge a bit til we're up!
Good luck

Have you tried giving her something with your scent on - I gave my pup one of my t-shirts on his 2nd night with us and never heard another peep out of him. Its worth a try.

Good luck!
